Joan Moore Obituary

Joan Moore, age 85, of Delevan, NY, passed away peacefully at her home on July 16, 2026, surrounded by her loved ones.

She was born in Buffalo on October 25, 1940, a daughter of the late John Koch and Dorothy (Cassick) Koch.

Joan spent her life loving her husband, her family, and her many friends. She found joy in life's simple pleasures—planting flowers, feeding the birds, volunteering, and bringing people together. She never met a stranger and showed her love generously, often by cooking far more food than anyone could possibly eat.

She also spent a lifetime collecting what she liked to call "invitations to the policeman's ball"—better known as speeding tickets. By the time she retired, her final tally was 13.

A true spitfire with a heart of gold and a quick wit, Joan was known for her wonderful sense of humor. She delighted in funny shirts, whimsical purses, and finding reasons to laugh every day. A devoted Buffalo Bills fan, she cheered through every season and passed away wearing her Bills T-shirt, fittingly on 7/16. She embraced life with enthusiasm, kindness, and generosity, leaving behind countless happy memories and a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her.

Joan was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Marvin "Zero" Moore; her son, Wayne Hartloff; her parents, John and Dorothy Koch; her brothers, John "Jack" Koch and Kenneth Koch; and her first husband, Vernon Hartloff.

She is lovingly remembered by her children, Duane (Janelle) Hartloff, Wendy (Grant Wurtz) Hartloff, and Brenda (Ted) Ackerman; her grandchildren, Wayne Hartloff, Trent Hartloff, Cameron Alvey, Courtney (Pawel) Alvey, Angel (Darren) Morgan, Andrea (Terrick) Haggard, Andrew (Anna) Ackerman, Ashley (Jeff) Tatko, and Alesia (Travis) Kessler; her great-grandchildren, Jewel, Braiden, Brysen, Lyndzie, Alyxzander, Tryvor, Hadleigh, Samantha, Mason, Abigail, Harley, Xavier, Parker, and Walker; her siblings, Chris (Beth) Koch and Louella "Kay" (John) Beeny; her sister-in-law, Margaret Koch; her dear friend, Judy; her faithful dog, Ben; and many extended family members and friends who will miss her dearly.

Even in death, Joan wanted to give one final gift. In keeping with her generous nature, she wished to donate her body to the University at Buffalo Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences—to "teach a class," as she liked to say.

Per Joan's exact wishes, there will be no somber, quiet mourning. Instead, family and friends are invited to celebrate a life filled with love, laughter, and generosity. Details for a Celebration of Life will be shared at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, Joan would love for you to plant some of your own and think of her whenever they bloom.
