Michael Anthony Travis, 71, entered eternal rest on July 3, 2026, at JFK University Medical Center in Edison, New Jersey. He was born on July 15, 1954, in Lawrenceville, Virginia, to the late Daniel Randolph Travis and Ophelia Mae (Kelly) Travis.

Michael resided in Plainfield, New Jersey, where he dedicated his life to education and service as an educator with the Plainfield Public School District. He was passionate about making a difference in the lives of his students and took great pride in helping others learn and succeed.

He received his undergraduate degree from Johnson C. Smith University in Charolette, NC, Class of 1977 and later earned his master’s degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University in Teaneck, Class of 1996, continuing his lifelong commitment to education and personal growth. He earned his real estate license and enjoyed a successful career as a real estate agent. 

Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel Randolph Travis and Ophelia Mae (Kelly) Travis, and sister, Ellen Donaldson.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving siblings: Jean Travis-Cook of New Brunswick, New Jersey; Wilbur Travis and his wife, Pamela Travis of Piscataway, New Jersey; Gerald Travis of Princeton, New Jersey; and Linda Travis Curry of Manalapan, New Jersey. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, colleagues, former students, and friends who will forever cherish the impact he had on their lives.

Although Michael did not have children of his own, he was a father figure to many. He was the beloved uncle who gave love, guidance, and support freely, earning the title of an uncle with no children, but a father to all. He created countless memories through family gatherings, including his beloved Christmas parties and annual fish fries, where family and friends came together to celebrate, laugh, and enjoy each other’s company.

Michael was known for his sarcastic sense of humor, quick wit, and bubbly personality. He had a special way of making people smile and making everyone feel welcome. His generosity, warmth, and love for his family will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Michael Anthony Travis leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, education, and family. Though he will be deeply missed, his memory will continue to live on through the many lives he touched.
