Nila Joanne Moe Obituary

Nila Joanne Moe - nee Schlichting

At the age of 99, Nila passed away peacefully at Aggie's Country Living in Eagleton, Wisconsin, July 8, 2026.

She was born in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin to Floyd and Clara Schlichting on June 4, 1927.

Back during WWII, Nila wanted to become an airplane pilot. She volunteered to work at the local airport after school doing odd chores and cooking in exchange for training and flight-time. As she told it, the day came that her instructor handed her the keys to the Piper Cub she trained in and told her to go and fly solo. That she did! She barnstormed her aunt and uncle's farm near Eagleton and returned to the airport. Her big dream to become a test pilot was curtailed when she met Elwin Day at "The Hoot" nightclub in Hallie. They danced, fell in love, and so goes the rest of the story.

After being a full-time mother and homemaker she worked in the business office of Sacred Heart Hospital and the computer department of the Consumer's Co-op Credit Union. She also had a part-time job at Shopko and finally retired from the Veteran’s Administration in Eau Claire.

She loved league bowling, playing golf, crafting, gardening and travelling.

Nila is survived by her son, James Day (Jacqueline) of Oconomowoc, WI, a niece, Roxane Farmer (Steve) of Chippewa Falls, WI and two granddaughters, Sarah Day of Oconomowoc, WI and Dorian Bryson of Abilene, Kansas. She is preceded in death by her sister Barbara Stanley, son Ronald Day (Beverly), daughter Melissa, and the love of her life, Ken Faber.

Nila will be dearly missed by our friends and family.
