Joan Edenborn Stiles Age 92, of Wyndmoor and Ambler, PA, died peacefully on July 14, 2026. Beloved wife of the late Carson A. (Bud) Stiles. Devoted stepmother of Michael R. (Leslie), Brett C. (dec’d), Graham Stiles (Nancy, dec’d), and Jacquelyn Lucard (Richard, dec’d). She was also predeceased by her parents, Harry, Jr. and Elsie Sharp Edenborn, as well as her sister, Mildred Taylor and brother, Harry Edenborn, III. She was the cherished “Gammy” - grandmother to Jacqueline Cuddeback(John), Eric, Graham R.(Larissa), and Stephen M. (Fritzi) Stiles and Carson Lucard, and great grandmother to Jack, Whitney and Cole Cuddeback, Stephen F. and Elijah M. Stiles. Also, the adored aunt of Elysia Taylor Ashburn (Richard) and the late Keith S. Taylor.


 


Joan was a graduate of Springfield High School ( Montgomery County) in 1952 and obtained her bachelor of science degree in 1956 and master of education degree from Temple University in 1963. She was a gifted, world class athlete. At Temple she was a four year participant in field hockey and two year participant in basketball and lacrosse. She was selected to the All - College First Team in field hockey for four straight years, captained the team in 1955, and coached it from 1957-1963. She was a recipient of the Temple University Outstanding Athlete Award and was inducted into the Temple Athletic Hall of Fame in 1979. She toured the world as a member of the U.S. Field Hockey Team from 1954 through 1963. In 1988 she was inducted into the United States Field Hockey Hall of Fame.


 


In 1965 she married Bud Stiles, whom she loved unconditionally until the very last day of her life. She also had a special place in her heart for her dogs, especially her beloved german shepherds.


For decades she was a gracious and welcoming host with her husband for fun- filled days and nights by the pool and tennis court at their home on Bethlehem Pike in Ambler, PA.


 


Burial was private at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Spring City, PA. A memorial service will be held at Meadowood Retirement Community, 3205 Skippack Pike, Lansdale, PA 19446 on a date to be determined.
