George Harold Hickam, age 90, of Columbia, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.
George was born on November 30, 1935, in Boone County, Missouri, to George Hickam and Georgia Helen Hayes Hickam. He was baptized at Mt. Celestial Missionary Baptist Church in McBaine, Missouri, where his faith journey began. He attended Douglas High School and spent his life building strong roots in the Columbia community.
A dedicated and hardworking man, George began his career with State Farm Insurance, where he faithfully served for more than 30 years. Following his retirement, he continued working at Turner Garage for the University of Missouri. Never one to shy away from hard work or new opportunities, George also ventured into business ownership as co-owner of the T&H Club and Restaurant before eventually becoming its sole owner. Through every chapter of his life, George earned the respect of those around him for his dependability, determination, and unwavering work ethic.
Beyond his work, George found his greatest joy in the outdoors. Whether hunting in the woods, casting a line into the water, or trying his luck at the casino, he embraced every opportunity to enjoy life. He treasured time spent with family and friends and leaves behind countless memories filled with laughter, stories, and love.
George is survived by his children, George Hickam Jr. of Columbia, Missouri, John C. Hickam (Tina) of Sedalia, Missouri, Cynthia Umbles, and Dana Hickam; his stepchildren, Rodney Ferguson and Doris Ferguson, both of Columbia, Missouri, and Carol Ferguson of Iowa; his sister, Linda Mitchell of Columbia, Missouri; and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and cherished friends who will forever hold his memory close.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dorothy Jean Ferguson Hickam; his parents, George Hickam and Georgia Helen Hayes Hickam; his stepfather, Wilbur Mitchell; his sisters, Mineola Hickam and Agnes Black; and his brothers, Jewell Hickam and Roger Hickam.
George lived a life defined by perseverance, integrity, and quiet strength. He believed in the value of honest work, the importance of providing for his family, and finding happiness in life's simple pleasures. His legacy will live on through the many lives he touched and the family who will continue to honor his memory for generations to come.
He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and never forgotten.
Services are scheduled for Wednesday 29, 2026 at Parker-Millard Funeral Service in Columbia, Missouri. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Homegoing Celebration will follow at 12:00 p.m. with Rev. James Gray officiating . Burial will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery in Columbia, Missouri following the service.
