Susan M. Foster Obituary
Susan M. Foster, age 84, of Quincy, died on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, in her home.
She was born November 22, 1941 in Alton, Illinois, the daughter of Donald and Muriel Todd Isted. On June 12, 1965 she married Gene L. Foster. He preceded her in death on November 14, 2017, after 52 years of marriage.
She was a 1959 graduate of Roxana High School, and received her B.S. in Education from Western Illinois University in 1964. Sue taught at Woodland High School in Streator, IL from 1964 to 1966. She also worked as a secretary for Union United Methodist Church, Vermont Street United Methodist Church and Farmers Insurance Group. Sue held positions at both Bergner’s and First Bank.
Sue was a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, Quincy Newcomers, Home Extension Auxiliary, Quincy Business and Professional Women, Sunset Home Auxiliary and the Quincy Public Library Board of Trustees. She was a district officer for the United Methodist Women for 13 years.
Survivors include two daughters, Joan (Susie Virgilio) Foster of San Diego, CA; and Lori Ray of Quincy, IL; three grandchildren: Jessica Ramsey, David Ray of Quincy and Meghan (Alex) Deters of Mendon; seven great-grandchildren including Andi Wellman, Emmaline Deters, Adrianna Deters, Oliver Ray, Graham Deters, and Josephine Deters; one sister, Donna (Robert) Ericson, of Eden Prairie, MN; two brothers-in-law James Pile, of Roxana, IL and Stephen (Michele) Foster, Norfolk, VA; a sister-in-law Ella Mae Foster, Cincinnati, OH, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Beverly Pile, and a brother-in-law, Dee Foster.
Visitation: 9:00 am to 11:00 am on Saturday, July 18, 2026 at the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home.
Services: 11:00 am on Saturday, July 18, 2026 at the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home, with Rev. Lois Sorrill officiating.
