Alan K. Spellman Obituary
Alan K. Spellman, 76, of Enfield, loving brother, cousin, uncle and friend, passed away surrounded by his family on Friday, July 10, 2026. He was born on June 28, 1950, in Hartford, one of five children to the late Alfred and Dorothy (Dittman) Spellman.
Alan was a good, honest, decent person, and an intelligent man with a great sense of humor. In 1968, he graduated from Southwick High School with honors and the highest school scholarship. In 1972, he graduated from UMASS Amherst with a bachelor’s of science degree. He was employed with Aetna for 20 years and retired from ING after 6 years. Alan played many instruments and especially loved piano and keyboard. He enjoyed playing board games with his cousin, Mark, his niece, Mary, and her kids, Jordan and Zach whom he loved like his own children. He loved the challenge of puzzles and Legos, as well as cooking and experimenting with new recipes. Alan was a die-hard New York Yankees and Giants fan, member of the Tobacco Valley Artists Association, the Academic Artists Association, and a council member. His artwork is shown in various shows, winning multiple awards and is also a part of the pencil exhibit at Springfield Museum and the Suffield Library. Alan’s smile, laughter, and love of life will be forever in our hearts until we meet again.
Alan is survived by his two brothers, Richard Spellman and his wife Gloria of Hillsboro, NM, and David Spellman, Sr. and his wife Marjorie of Enfield; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and their families. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two sisters, Geraldine Stears and Dorothy Clay.
A time of visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, July 17, 2026, from 4-6 p.m. at the Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Rd., South Windsor.
