Agape must be experienced to be understood. It is a shared experience that imparts an eternal memory; Αἰωνία ἡ μνήμη.

Eleftheria Vouris, loving mother to Gloria (Militadi) Theodosopoulos, Antonios (Georgia) Vouris, and Dimitrios (Shirley) Vouris, passed away peacefully Tuesday July 7, 2026 and, after ninety years, was called home to be with her husband, Angelo Vouris, and son, Christos Vouris.

At only nine years old, Eleftheria fled Sopiki, Albania under the cover of night with her parents and nine siblings to live as political refugees in Perdika, Greece. There, she learned to read and went to school. She fell in love with the boy next door, Angelo, whom she married, emigrated with to America, settled in Chicago, and started a family of her own. Her parents and nearly all of her siblings also laid their roots in Chicago and she remained close with them throughout her life. Eleftheria worked at Zenith, prepared Prosfora for several Greek Orthodox churches every Sunday and, with Angelo, raised her family deliberately in Christ, with love, humor and a tender, quick wit. Her life's experience stitched common values in each of her children, which they instilled lovingly to their own.

Eleftheria nurtered a special connection with each one of her grandchildren and great grandchildren: Georgia Theodosopoulos, Evangelo (Leslie) Theodosopoulos, Vicki Terri Theodospoulos, Evangelos (Tina) Vouris, Vasili Vouris, Christian Vouris, Eleftheria Vouris, Anna Maria Vouris, Evangelos Vouris, Anastasios Theodosopoulos, and Zoey Theodosopoulos. The warmth of her love impressed upon them her gentle and purposeful role in their lives. She lives on with them through the Παραμύθια she shared over generations; the fortitude exemplified in each of her grandaughters; the nurturing manner in which love is shared through food; the giving generosity of her spirit without the weight of expected return; the unwavering commitment of her faith in God symbolized in every Prosforo and Artoclassia she made for others. She is something different, true, and beautiful to each of them.

She loved and was loved; her memory will live on forever.

Visitation will be held on Monday, July 13, 2026 from 10-11am until time of Funeral Service at 11am at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 2701 N Sheffield, Chicago, IL 60614. Interment Elmwood Cemetery.
