Mary Jean (Catania) Favazza, 93, of Gloucester died on Thursday, July 2nd, her daughter and son both had been with her during the day. She was the wife of the late John P. Favazza.

Mary was born in Gloucester on May 1st, 1933, the third of twelve children, to the late Michael and Sarah (Aiello) Catania.

Mary was an outstanding cook and baker, so much so that her family and friends would request her to make her specialty dishes or cookies and desserts, instead of gifts for birthdays and holidays. It wasn’t unusual to see pans of baked goods laid out on the kitchen and dining room tables, cooling.

Mary was a lifelong resident of Gloucester and loved her home and backyard. She took pride in keeping her home and yard meticulously clean. In her early years, Mary worked in the seafood industry and was a member of the Seafood Retirees. Mary was a faithful active member of The Assembly Of God church. Mary’s faith was one of the greatest joys of her life. Her most memorable trip was when she visited the holy land in Isreal. She loved sharing her pictures and stories of this trip with family and friends.

Later in life, Mary moved into her daughter, Vincie’s home to live with her family, to make sure she was safe and well-cared for until she became a resident of Seacoast Nursing Home.

Mary loved her family and friends, and enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was a devoted grandmother and took pride in her family.

She is survived by her children; Carlo Favazza and Vincie Caisse, siblings; Jeanette Fournier, Pauline Pelosi, Vita Lefavor and husband John, Frank Catania, Joe Catania, Roseanne Catania, and Joyce Catania, grandchildren; Kayla Caisse and her partner Josh, Haleigh Caisse and her fiancé Dan, Emily Caisse and her partner Chris, and Robert Caisse, great-grandchildren; Alexis, Caleigh, Riley, Zoe, and Brianna Mary.
