Barbara Sue Chapman Obituary
Barbara Sue Chapman
1941-2026
Barbara Sue Chapman, age 85 of Catlettsburg, Kentucky, entered into eternal rest and the loving embrace of her Heavenly Father on Monday, July 6, 2026.
Barbara was born just as the days were warming up into summer, on June 13, 1941. She was the blessing of the late Paul and Dolly Fay Stambaugh Brown. She was a proud graduate of Thomas R. Brown High School. Barbara had strong work ethic that led her to serve as a dedicated supervisor for several employers throughout her career. Although her career was important to her, her greatest accomplishments were never found in a job title, they were found in her faith, her family, and the countless lives she touched along the way.
Barbara had an extraordinary gift for making people feel welcomed and loved. She never met a lonely soul she didn't want to comfort. If someone needed a safe place, a warm meal, a listening ear, or simply a hug, Barbara's heart and home were always open. Her compassion knew no limits. One of the greatest reflections of her love was her work as a foster mother. Throughout her life, Barbara lovingly cared for 25 precious infants, providing them with tenderness, security, and unconditional love while they awaited permanent placement.
Her family was the center of her world. She treasured every moment spent with her children and grandchildren. Her nurturing spirit extended far beyond her own family, touching neighbors, friends, and strangers alike.
Barbara's faith was the foundation upon which she built her life. A faithful Christian and devoted member of Grace Baptist Church in South Bend, Indiana, she spent many years teaching Sunday School and sharing God's Word. In church Barbara found peace.
When she wasn't caring for others, Barbara found happiness in the simple gifts God provided. She loved tending to her yard, the love of a good dog, and a tasty, sweet treat. Though her family grieves her passing, they rejoice knowing she has heard the words she longed for most: "Well done, good and faithful servant."
Barbara leaves behind her devoted children Donita McKay and her husband Rick of Catlettsburg, KY, and Paul Chapman and his wife Cathy of Grayson, Ky, five precious grandchildren, Danielle Young and her husband Josh, Dustin McKay and his wife Rachael, Kristin Parrish and her husband Patrick, Kirk Chapman and his wife Alicia, and Bryce Chapman and his wife Jordyn, and nine extra special great-grandchildren, Kyle, Jayden, Jemma, Lincoln, Reece, Zeke, Rennick, Haskell, and Fenn. Also surviving is two brothers Richard Brown and his wife Becky and Keith Brown, all of Catlettsburg, KY, and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
In addition to her late parents, Barbara is enjoying a Heavenly reunion with her late husband David Haskell Chapman, and brothers Vernon Brown, Larry Brown, Ronny Brown, and Mike Brown.
A funeral service to honor the life of Barbara will take place on Friday, July 10, 2026 at Neal Funeral Home, located at 2409 Center Street, Catlettsburg, Ky, beginning at 4pm. Visitation for friends and family will take place prior to service from 3pm until service time.
