Andrew “Andy” McDonald Putnam, 69, of Columbia, Missouri, passed away on July 5, 2026, at University Hospital surrounded by the love of his family. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, coach, and friend, Andy lived a life centered around family.
Andy was born on August 25, 1956, in Aberdeen, South Dakota, to James and Katharine (Cook) Putnam. He graduated from Mitchell High School in Mitchell, South Dakota, in 1974 before beginning a career in retail sales. He spent many years with Nordstrom Department Store.
On July 30, 1976, Andy married the love of his life, Connie Callin. Together they shared nearly 50 years of marriage and built a family they were proud of. Nothing brought Andy greater joy than his family. He especially treasured time spent with his grandchildren, faithfully cheering them on at sporting events and school activities. Whether he was watching from the sidelines or from afar through technology, Andy was always one of their biggest fans, offering encouragement and support every step of the way. He also enjoyed playing golf and found great fulfillment in coaching youth sports.
Andy is survived by his beloved wife, Connie Putnam of Columbia, Missouri; his sons, Jim Putnam and wife, Katie, of Columbia, Missouri, and Brian Putnam and wife, Codi, of Dubuque, Iowa; his brothers, Tom Putnam and wife, Carol of Belgrade, Montana, Steve Putnam and wife, Brenda, of Cape Coral, Florida; sister-in-law Marsha Putnam of Billings, Montana; his grandchildren, Jack, Tyler, Callen, Presley, Pierce, Merrick, Owen, and Charlie; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will miss him deeply.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Katharine Putnam; his brother, Bruce Putnam of Billings, Montana; and his in laws, Scott and Betty Callin.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the physicians, nurses, and staff at University of Missouri Hospital, especially the Ellis Fischel Cancer Center, for the compassionate care and kindness shown to Andy throughout his illness.
