Joseph Garrett Obituary

Mr. Joseph "Bo Diddlie" Garrett

October 10, 1936 – July 2, 2026

On Thursday, July 2, 2026, God, in His infinite wisdom, called Mr. Joseph Garrett, affectionately known as "Bo Diddlie," from labor to eternal rest at the age of 89.

Joseph was born on October 10, 1936, and was a lifelong resident of the Anderson and Greenville, South Carolina communities. He was preceded in death by his parents, Johnny Garrett and Claudia Jackson; his son, Benjamin Garrett; a host of brothers and sisters; and four grandsons.

He leaves to cherish his loving memory his devoted wife of 60 years, Mrs. Shirley Ann Garrett; his last surviving sister, Bobbie Jean Pinson, both of Greenville, South Carolina; five daughters, Leneata Garrett, Marion Garrett, Valerie Miller, Vanessa Davis, and Sharon Garrett; his goddaughter, Kristain Jackson; five sons, Joseph Garrett, Jr., Timothy Garrett, Freddy Garrett, Vernard Garrett, and Maurice Thomas; 25 grandchildren, 61 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives, and many devoted friends.

Joseph was a hardworking man who dedicated many years of service to Smith Dray Line Moving Company, Sloan Construction Company, Mikes Limousine Service, and Miracle Hill. He was also a proud Freemason and an active member of the Shriners.

Joseph never met a stranger. He loved people, music, dancing, and making others laugh. His warm smile, joyful spirit, and infectious sense of humor could brighten any room. He was a man of deep faith, wisdom, and compassion. Those who knew him often said, "To know Joseph was to know God." His life reflected humility, kindness, and a genuine love for others. If you knew Joseph, you knew a man whose faith was evident not only in his words but in the way he lived each day.

Although he will be deeply missed, his family finds comfort in knowing that his legacy of faith, love, hard work, and perseverance will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

"Well done, thou good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord."

Matthew 25:23 (KJV)
