Gail Deletta Howard Freie of Warrenton, VA, age 88 passed away on June 29, 2026. She was a loving devoted wife and mother. Gail is predeceased by her parents: Albert Roy Howard and Anna Mae Nichols Putnam; and sisters, Gloria Ann Elmore and Gladys Ellen Porter.

Gail is survived by her husband, Robert Lowell Freie; her three children, Lynette Dee Martin of Kilmarnock, VA, Diana Little Shannon of Front Royal, VA and Michael Robert Freie of Pelham, NH; seven grandchildren, Samantha Little Green, Nicholas Robert Freie, Bryan Michael Martin, Stephanie Mae Little, Christina Martin Buchanan, Stephen William (Billy) Martin and Delaney Michelle Martin; and eleven great-grandchildren. Gail will be laid to rest in her home state, in Hampton, Iowa (final arrangements to be made). Online condolences can be made at moserfuneralhome.com. Gail was the devoted wife of 67 years to her beloved husband, Robert "Bob" Freie, and together they built a life centered around family. Gail and Bob met in 1958 when they both attended Iowa State University and were married in April 1959. She majored in Textiles and Clothing, was an avid sewer winning awards and making many of her own clothes and wedding gowns for her sister’s Gladys and granddaughters’ weddings. After Bob and Gail were married, Gail shifted her focus to loving and caring for her family. She volunteered much of her time as a Girl Scout leader and at her children’s school.

She showed her love through cooking and always made her home a welcoming place where family gathered and memories were made. She was determined to capture every special moment, rarely missing a family gathering or celebration without taking photos to preserve those memories. Nothing brought her more joy than gathering everyone in one place, especially during cherished annual Sandbridge, Virginia Beach trips that earned her the affectionate title of “Beach Grandma.”

Gail was incredibly social and never met a stranger. Her straightforward honesty often came with humor that made those around her laugh. Gail enjoyed spending time with genealogy, quilting, and cross stitch. She made beautiful Christmas tree skirts for her children and grandchildren. Gail also enjoyed playing bridge, taking Chinese cooking classes, bowling and traveling with her husband Bob. She took great pride in the accomplishments of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, celebrating each milestone with joy. Gail leaves her legacy through her love and family, and she will be greatly missed.

The family will be having a visitation for Gail at the Suffield Meadows Club House, 6709 Suffield Ln, Warrenton, Virginia, 3 July 2026 from 10:00 to 12:00.
