John T. Cavanaugh Obituary
John T. Cavanaugh of Florence, KY, whose boundless energy and zest for life inspired everyone around him, passed away on Monday, June 29, 2026 in Edgewood, KY at the age of 86.
He was born on May 22, 1940 in Staten Island, he was a son of the late John Cavanaugh Sr. and Carol (Largiader) Pasternak, and the stepson of Ralph Pasternak. He served his country with honor as a Green Beret from 1962 to 1963 during the Vietnam War, embodying courage, discipline, and unwavering dedication.
John attended Nova University in Florida where he earned his Bachelor's Degree in Business Management. Initially, he worked as an Engineer for Motorola in Arcade and later transferred to their manufacturing plant in Sunrise, FL. Thereafter, he pursued a career as a Project Manager for Key Pharmaceuticals in South Florida. After years of hard work and commitment, he ultimately became the proud owner of M‑D Property Management, where his dedication and skill as a contractor left a lasting mark on the community he served.
His life was fueled by a passion for classic cars, with a special place in his heart for the 1967 Ford Mustang. John was an active member of the Sports Car Club of America, competing in SCCA-sanctioned events across the country. His racing career included appearances at Watkins Glen and Sebring, FL, where he enjoyed the challenge of high-speed road courses and endurance racing.
John had earned the prestigious rank of Black Belt in Karate, a testament to his perseverance and strength of spirit. He also shared a special bond with his beloved dog, Susie, whose companionship brought him endless joy.
He is survived by his loving wife of 16 years, Martha (Knight) Cavanaugh, whom he married on October 23, 2009 in Sebring, FL; his stepchildren, Jason Gallaway of Williamsburg, PA and Josh (Jennifer) Gallaway of Delevan; his sister, Lorraine "Lori" (Joe Petrino) Pasternak of Buffalo; as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his sister, Linda Truesdell and brother, Michael Pasternak.
Friends and family may call on Saturday, August 15, 2026 from 11am-1pm at the W.S. Davis Funeral Home, 358 Main St., Arcade where a Memorial service will be held immediately following at 1pm.
