Mary Ellen Merki Obituary
Mary Ellen Merki, aged 93, stepped into eternity on June 23, 2026.
She was born on September 18, 1932, to Chester and Olive Williams of Lansdale, Pa. Mary Ellen met Paul Merki when she was 14 and he was 16. They knew from that young age that they were meant for each other, and they married on August 22, 1953.
Mary Ellen was so many things to so many people. When Paul was called into ministry, she dedicated herself to be his biggest supporter and helper. She had boundless energy, compassion and love for people. She was the definition of selfless; working night shifts as a nurse so she could be there for her family in their waking hours. But all her gifts were used far outside the boundaries of her family. Their home was always an open and welcoming place where delicious food, including her famous homemade bread, was served. Where Mary Ellen was there was laughter, joy and acceptance.
She is survived by one son, David (Annette) Merki of Mount Vernon, two daughters, JoAnne (Tim) Hancock of Lakeland, Florida, Debbie Merki of Newark, a daughter-in-law, Diane (Stephen) Merki, nine grandchildren, 16 great grandsons and one great granddaughter, who is named Mary Ellen, and a sister, Ruth Wimmer, of Telford, Pennsylvania.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Merki, a son, Stephen Merki, and an infant daughter, Ruth Elizabeth.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 27, 2026,11:00 AM at Snyder Funeral Home – Lasater Chapel, 11337 Upper Gilchrist Road in Mount Vernon. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until time of services on Saturday.
