Nathan Alan Gray Obituary
Nathan Alan Gray
1977–2026
"A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies. The man who never reads lives only one." -George R.R. Martin
Nathan Alan Gray, age 48, of Ashland, Kentucky, passed gently from this life on June 22, 2026, while surrounded by the care and comfort of his parents at UK Medical Center.
Nathan was born on July 28, 1977, in the warmth of summer and was the cherished son of Larry and Cheryl Branham Gray of Lexington, Kentucky.
From an early age, Nathan developed a deep love of reading. Few things brought him greater joy than a trip to the local library. Books opened endless worlds to him, carrying his imagination to distant places and extraordinary adventures. An avid reader, he especially enjoyed science fiction, where his curiosity and intellect found endless inspiration. Among his favorite passions was Star Wars, a universe whose stories of courage, hope, and discovery captivated him throughout his life.
Gifted with a sharp mind and a desire to learn, Nathan excelled academically. He graduated with honors from Paul G. Blazer High School and earned an academic scholarship to continue his education. His intelligence and nature led him to develop a strong aptitude for computers and technology. What seemed complex to many came effortlessly to Nathan, and he embraced the rapidly changing world of technology with both skill and enthusiasm.
Nathan spent a lifetime turning pages and exploring worlds both real and imagined. Though the final chapter of his earthly story has been written, his legacy remains in the hearts of those who loved him. His story will continue to be told through cherished memories, shared laughter, and the countless lives he touched along the way.
Nathan leaves behind his devoted parents Larry and Cheryl Branham Gray as well as his loving sister Amanda Phillips and her husband Andrew of Winchester, Kentucky. Also surviving is his special friend Michelle Dupree and many extended family members and friends.
A funeral service to honor the life of Nathan will be held on Thursday June 25, 2026, beginning at 1:00pm at Neal Funeral Home located at 2409 Center Street, Catlettsburg, with Pastor Kyle Vanover officiating.
