Kendal Howard Varner Obituary

Kendal Howard Varner, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 18 at the age of 63.


Born on May 7, 1963, in Canton, MS, Kendal lived a life defined by dedication, love, and service. For forty-four years, he faithfully served as an employee at Louisiana State Penitentiary earning the respect of his coworkers and all who knew him through his hard work, integrity, and commitment to helping others.


Above all else, Kendal loved his family. He was a devoted husband who cherished his wife, Patti, and their thirty years together. He was a proud father and grandfather. He loved his brother in laws, nieces and nephews dearly. His greatest joy came from spending time with those he loved.


When he wasn’t working, Kendal enjoyed the outdoors, especially working in his yard around his barn, hunting, and boating. He was happiest when at the hunting camp or on his boat. He also loved camping, creating unforgettable memories with his family and friends.


Those who knew Kendal will remember his kind heart, strong work ethic, quiet strength, and love for his family. A celebration of his life will be held on Monday, June 22, 2026, at First Baptist Church, St. Francisville, LA. There will be a visitation from 9:00 am until funeral services at 12:00 noon conducted by Rev. Joel Williams. Burial will be at Feliciana Cemetery.


He is survived by his wife Patti Butler Varner; three daughters: Savannah
Pacobit and husband Matt of Houston, TX; Lindsey Dooley and husband
Paul Bourque of Lafayette; Lyndsay Varner of Marksville; two sisters,
Kim Maxwell and husband Scooby of St. Francisville; Karla Bringedahl
and husband Buster of St. Francisville; five grandchildren: Grayson
Pacobit, Maverick Pacobit, Skylar Minor, Raine Minor, and Koda Dooley.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Milly Varner, son,
Joseph Howard Varner; in-laws Hilton and Omah Butler; and niece Milly
Jo Goodfellow.


Pallbearers will be Briggs Simpson, Austin Goodfellow,
Taylor Maxwell, Wesley Maxwell, Max Hawkins, Gage Hawkins, Manning
Hawkins, and Maddox Hawkins. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Hawkins, Stewart Hawkins, Maverick Hawkins, Jackson Maxwell, Collins Maxwell, Marion Maxwell, James Priddy, Darrel Vannoy, Tommy Wheeler, Members of the 6pt Hunting Club, and friends and co-workers at Louisiana State Penitentiary.


He will always remain in our hearts. His love and memories will be cherished always.
