Quinton A. Cox, 67, passed away peacefully at his home in Mount Hood, Oregon, on June 18, 2026, after a courageous battle with ALS.

Quinton was born on April 4, 1959, in Dalhart, Texas, to Milton A. Cox and Merle Ruby Laursen. His childhood was spent in Texas, California, and later Utah, where he lived throughout his teenage years and early adulthood. He attended American Fork High School and Utah Valley Vocational School before moving to the Uintah Basin of Utah, where he worked in the oil fields and for the U.S. Forest Service.

Quinton married Susan Freston in Roosevelt, Utah, and although they later divorced, they shared three daughters who remained the greatest source of pride in his life.

Throughout his career, Quinton was known as a skilled welder, mechanic, and hardworking tradesman. He spent his later years in Idaho and then Mount Hood, Oregon, where he lived until his passing. He worked in the timber industry as a millwright until his retirement in May 2025.

Quinton was a man who loved learning and creating. He was an avid rockhound who enjoyed collecting, polishing, and crafting beautiful pieces from stone. He also had a talent for metalworking, building both decorative and practical items with remarkable skill. A dedicated collector, he was always on the hunt for unique antiques and treasures. He enjoyed bowling and was an active league member for many years. Whether it was welding, car mechanics, collecting, knife making, leatherwork or any new hobby that caught his interest, Quinton had a remarkable ability to master whatever he set his mind to.

Those who knew Quinton will remember his quirky personality, quick wit, and wonderful sense of humor. He made friends wherever he went and had a gift for making others laugh.

Quinton is survived by his mother, Merle Laursen Glenn of Rapid City, South Dakota; his brother, Doyle Young of Chesapeake, Virginia; and his sisters, Keni Alice Jones of Sterling, Colorado; Polly Skinner of Holyoke, Colorado; Cheriece Verboom of Mt. Brydges, Ontario, Canada; and Marielle Larsen of Rapid City, South Dakota.

He is also survived by his daughters, Markee Kessell of Lubbock, Texas; Candice Chacon of Hood River, Oregon; and Autumn Swafford of Albany, Oregon; his grandchildren, Ryver Kessell, Bode Chacon, and Ruby Michelle Swafford; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, countless friends, and his beloved dog, Mike.

Quinton's legacy lives on through the family he cherished, the friendships he built, and the countless lives he touched with his humor, generosity, and determination.

A memorial service will be held on August 22, 2026, at Anderson’s Tribute Center in Hood River, Oregon.
