Mary Sheehan Obituary
Sheehan, Mary Susan (Hrchak)
Mary Susan Sheehan (Hrchak), born on January 19, 1939, in Timmins, Ontario, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2026, at the age of 87.
She was predeceased by her father, Andrew, her mother, Zuzana, immigrants from Slovakia who settled in Timmins, and her brother, Andy Hrchak (Carolyn) and her nephew Ron Hrchak.
Mary is lovingly remembered by her devoted husband, Phil Sheehan, with whom she shared 59 wonderful years of marriage. She was a proud and loving mother to Tanya, Joseph (Amy) and Mark (Nina). She was also a cherished “Mumka” to her grandchildren Addison, Brady, Bala, Zachary, Nora and Avery, who brought immense joy to her life, as did her niece Susan Hall (Hrchak).
Mary attended St. Mary’s Nursing School in Timmins, where she trained to become a Registered Nurse, which defined much of her life. She was an outstanding Operating Room nurse who worked in St. Catharines, Montreal, Halifax and London, UK. She was known for her exceptional skill and compassion, her willingness to stand up for others, and her remarkable ability to bring laughter to those around her.
Beyond her career, Mary was a woman of many talents and passions. She was an avid gardener, a crafter extraordinaire, and an accomplished knitter. She had a unique ability to fix almost anything, as in the time she varnished the family station wagon vinyl panels, so she did not have to wax them anymore.
Above all, she was deeply devoted to her children and grandchildren, always putting their needs first. Her grandchildren will forever treasure the special memories she created, whether it was painting pumpkins to match each holiday or enthusiastically dressing up to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. She had a gift for making every moment fun and meaningful.
Mary will also be remembered by her community for her generosity and charitable spirit. She consistently put others before herself and made a lasting impact on all who knew her. She devoted much of her time to helping provide underprivileged children with clothing and sporting gear, to which they would not otherwise have had access.
She was truly one of a kind, and everyone who knew her has a fond memory to cherish.
The family would like to thank the staff, physicians and nurses at the Lung Diagnostic Assessment Program, the Oncology Clinic, the Palliative Care team and Unit 3B at the St. Catharines Hospital for providing her such excellent and compassionate care.
A Celebration of Life will be held in her honour on Sunday, June 28, 2026, from 1pm to 5pm at the Royal Canadian Legion, 141 Hwy 20E, Fonthill, ON.
The family prefers that any expression of sympathy be in the form of donations to Save the Children (https://www.savethechildren.ca/) or Niagara Health Foundation (https://niagarahealthfoundation.com/). Condolences can be shared at www.pelhamfuneralhome.ca
