Aulph, James Harvey "Jim" 1943 - 2026

Between the time when Jim entered the world on April 19, 1943, and when he peacefully slipped away from us on June 3rd, 2026, he left a beautiful legacy of love in the wonderful family he nurtured. This loving example from Jim and his wife, Janice (nee Angle), will carry us through our shared sorrow and bring much laughter in the years to come. His son Joel (wife Brenda Bradley) and his daughter Jessica (husband Sean Stewart) will forever cherish his lessons of craftsmanship, frugality, homestyle cooking, watching the Leafs on mute, and how to correct every crooked item with a simple “Jim shim”. Hayden and Mason; Liam, Adam and William, are proud to be his “Hey Dude” grandsons, and they all carry Jim’s kind and gentle manner. Things they thank Grandpa for, and promise to pass down, include his delicious chuckwagon beans, the thrill of Sunday wagon rides behind the tractor and in the golf cart, annual New Year’s Eve shenanigans, cottage boat rides, giant bonfires at the Aulph campout, spritzers at all family meals, the legend of the monster under the stairs, the know-how of lawn cutting and picking up sticks, and of course “pinch, poke or flick”!

Jim worked tirelessly at Atlas Steel for 37 years. This allowed him and Janice to build their family dream home on Kilman, where the nurturing took place for 55 of their 58 years of marriage. In retirement, you could catch him dabbling with photography, tinkering in his carpentry shop, reading mysteries voraciously, and doing projects for the cottage. He and Janice travelled through North America and Europe with family and friends. Favourites included trips to Branson, England and Ireland, yet the most joy came from their spot on Manitouwaba Lake in Seguin Township.

Jim was the son of Norman and Mary Aulph of Wainfleet (both predeceased), who raised their flat-cap-wearing boy to be a gentleman. He was a delightful younger brother to his sister Louise (husband Art Campbell, both predeceased), and doted on younger siblings, Amy (husband Harland Young), and Richard Aulph. It was these close siblings who carried out the Aulph cousin reunion. Jim’s nieces and nephews, Darryl Campbell, Andrea and Jim McCollum, Jocelyn and Dave Kleiboer, and Dane Aulph, continue this tradition today with the growing families. Kevin Campbell and Alison Aulph predeceased their Uncle Jim in recent years. He was loved dearly by Janice’s mother, Ruby Elliott, and her husbands David Angle and Ted Elliott (all predeceased). Ruby, Jim and Janice enjoyed years of cottage trips together. He is survived by his sister-in-law Anne Freeman (husband Gene predeceased), sister-in-law Nancy Vanderzanden (husbands Keith Burnison and Harry Vanderzanden predeceased) and his brother-in-law Graham Angle and his wife Marion. He will be dearly missed by nieces and nephews Lisa, Lynn and Greg, Heath and Beth, and their families.

We invite you to share your memories of Jim with us at the PELHAM FUNERAL HOME, 1292 Pelham Street, Fonthill, on Thursday, June 11, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. We will gather to formally celebrate his life at North Pelham First Presbyterian Church, 602 Metler Road, in Fenwick, on Friday, June 12th, at 11 a.m. Cremation has taken place, and Jim will rest at the North Pelham Cemetery, where he and Janice were caretakers for many years.

In honour of Jim, find happiness in doing something that reminds you of him in the coming weeks. Make a full-bodied sandwich with all the toppings, raise a spritzer, read a book, carve some wood, and be kind to one another. Jim was grateful to have both his faith and health communities supporting him during his cancer treatment.
