Helen Johnson, age 85, of Radcliffe, IA, passed away on Monday, May 4, 2026, at the Scenic Manor in Iowa Falls, IA.

Helen Pauline Johnson was born on December 20, 1940 in Hampton, Iowa, the daughter of Harry and Lucille (Gaither) Gamble. She came from a large family being the fourth born of ten children.

She grew up in the Hampton area and received her education in the Hampton Community Schools, graduating with the Class of 1959.

Helen’s brother set her up on a blind date at the Iowa Falls Roller Skating Rink where she met the love of her life, Roger Johnson. They courted for 3 months, got engaged and married within 6 months. On April 3, 1960, they were united in marriage at the First Methodist Church Chapel in Hampton. After their marriage they moved to Radcliffe where Helen raised two girls, Shari and Lynelle. Over the years Helen cared for numerous children in the community at her in-home daycare.

Helen learned to cook Roger’s Norwegian favorites, Kumla, Kringla, and Lefse. She was crafty and enjoyed sewing. Helen enjoyed anytime with her family. She was very good at attending her grandchildren’s concerts and any evening events they had. Helen liked attending the lunches at the community building at her apartment complex in Radcliffe. After moving to Scenic Manor she enjoyed listening to music and playing bingo.

Helen was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church for many years and served on the lunch committee.

Helen is survived by her daughter Lynelle (Kirk) Eller of Cedar City, UT; son-in-law Steve Eckel of Radcliffe; grandchildren: April (Dustin) Nicholson, Kalon Oberhokamp, Jason (Rachael) Eller, Bryce (Kala) Eller, Camryn (Tyler) Amsberry; 12 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; sisters: Barb (Del) Oswood, Ruth Becker, and Pat Gamble; sisters-in-law: Dolores Gamble, Connie Gamble, and Barb Gamble; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband Roger; daughter Shari; parents; siblings: Dean Gamble, Harry (Bev) Gamble, Dorothy Metz, William Gamble, Doris Mejia, and Robert Gamble.
