Betty Farquhar Roberts Obituary

Betty Farquhar Roberts passed away unexpectedly at home June 29th, 2019. Betty was born in Cawthon, Texas near Navasota. Her family moved to the Houston Heights in 1943. Betty was preceded in death by her parents Hunt Farquhar and Rosalie Nichols Farquhar; brothers Don, Dean, Jack and Tommy Farquhar; sisters, Dorothy Harrison and Lucy Grabarkawitz. Betty’s survivors include her devoted husband of 71 years, Vernon K Roberts; Sister, Vivian Dannheiser; children Verna DeHart and husband Rodger, Keith Roberts and wife Robanne; Susan Bridges, and Lil Newman; grandchildren, Keith Alan DeHart, Adam DeHart, Ashley DeHart, Samuel Roberts, Sid Roberts, Callie Roberts, Justin Bridges, Leah Overall, Natalie DeAyala Lindsey, Michael DeAyala, Christian DeAyala, Bobby King Newman II; great-grandchildren, Dylan and Adalynn DeHart, Madison, Hayden and Dean DeHart, Margot Lindsey, Carter Usher, Brian Klevenski-Bridges and Blake Overall. Betty was brought into this life in 1931 by a mid-wife in her family home on the Brazos River. Her early years were spent living on a farm during the depression. She picked cotton and helped care for her younger siblings. Her memories of these times were laced with struggle, but with that came strength and resilience-- shaping her to become the woman she became-- a hard worker, able to handle anything thrown her way. After moving to Houston, she attended school and worked binding books, and at the Washington movie theatre. She was so intelligent and eloquently spoken. She was the epitome of class and grace. Betty was an avid bowler, loved playing Bunco and dominoes with her children and friends and could cut a mean rug. Betty was a talented cook. Her recipes for her chicken and dumplings, lemon cake and fried chicken are some of the family favorites. She was the matriarch of her family and was someone her family counted on for comfort and wisdom. Betty and Vernon moved their family to North Houston in 1964 and lived there until they retired to their home on Lake Livingston in 1990. They lived many happy years there before settling in Conroe to be nearer to family in 2013. She will be greatly missed, loved and her memory will live on with all those she touched. Services and burial will be held at Woodlawn Funeral Home at 1101 Antoine on July 8, 2019 at 1:00. Celebration of life following at a family residence 215 Hedwig Road. Pallbearers: Keith A. DeHart, Michael DeAyala, Christian DeAyala, Sid Roberts, Hayden DeHart and Dylan DeHart
