Dorothy L. “Dot” (Godwin) George

1936-2026

Dot George, age 89, of Fort Walton Beach, FL, passed away on March 12, 2026.

She was born in Savannah, GA on April 19, 1936, and was raised by her loving parents Claude Godwin and Agnes Godwin of Waycross, GA.

She was raised in Pierce County, GA and Waycross, GA. She graduated from the University of Georgia in 1958 and was a home demonstration agent in Georgia prior to marrying and moving to Florida in the early 1960s. She and her husband Charles raised all three of their children in Fort Walton Beach and attended First Baptist Church of Fort Walton Beach where she volunteered in the church nursery, taught mission friends, and training union. She also taught at Elliott Point Elementary School as a substitute teacher for 25 years. Her hobbies were reading, family history/pictures, and antiques/collecting.

She is predeceased by her husband, Charles M. George Sr, and both of her parents.

She is survived by her children, Charles M. George Jr of Fort Walton Beach, Len (Julie) George of Hartwell, GA, and Grace George of Fort Walton Beach; and four grandchildren: Caroline (Cooper) Larson, Claudia George, Franklin George, and Shealy George.

We appreciate the great care that she received by the staff for the past two years while at Fort Walton Rehabilitation Center while she battled Alzheimer's.

In accordance with her wishes, cremation will take place and a private graveside memorial for immediate family will be held at a later date.
