Lloyd Douglas Loftis, of Cookeville Tennessee, formerly of Gainesboro, passed peacefully from this life at his home surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, January 10, 2026 at the age of 85.
Born on January 6, 1941 in the Sugar Creek Community of Jackson County, Tennessee, Lloyd was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He was a steady, loving and strong presence in the lives of his family and friends. He was a lifelong member of the Gainesboro Church of Christ. He retired from Eaton, formerly Aeroquip, after many decades, having rarely missed a day of work. An avid sports fan all of his life, Lloyd loved football and could still remember the score of almost every game he ever played at Jackson County High School. His sweet sense of humor was a gift always delivered with a slight smile and twinkle in his eye, reminding us all to not take life too seriously.
Lloyd was the son of Morgan Laborn Loftis and Anna Jewel Wylie Loftis. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers Lewis Loftis and Horace Lee (Sandy) Loftis and sister Jeanette (Kenneth) Conner. Sister-in-law Virginia (Doug) Strong and brothers-in-law Rod Brown, Tom Stockton and Carlos Cook .
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Mary Sue Brown Loftis who he absolutely adored; his daughters Jennifer Loftis and Natalie (Jonathan) Downs both of Cookeville, TN; his grandchildren Zander Martin and Skylar Martin, both of Cookeville TN; his sisters Ina Stockton of Clinton Township, Ml and Myra Cook of Sterling Heights, Ml; his brothers Ray (Paulette) Loftis of Livonia, Ml and Ronnie (Kaye) Loftis of Bloomington Springs, TN; his brothers-in-law Phillip (Cathy) Brown and David (Martha) Brown, his sister-in-law Annette Brown; several nieces, nephews and their families also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 13, 2026 at 1:00 pm in the chapel of Anderson Upper Cumberland Funeral Home, with Brother Douglas Downs officiating. Burial will follow at the Richmond Cemetery in the Flynn's Lick Community of Gainesboro, TN. Visitation will be Tuesday from 10:00 am until time of services.
