Lakota Rainy Whitecap, known by her Lakota name Maka Luta Win (Red Earth Woman), began her journey to the Spirit World on January 8, 2026, passing peacefully in her sleep beside her beloved husband. She now walks on with the ancestors, guided by love, prayers, and the strength of those who came before her.
Lakota proudly carried her identity as Sioux, Cree, and Saulteaux, holding deep respect for the teachings, traditions, and strength of her people. Her spirit reflected the unity of these Nations, grounded in the land, family, and ancestral ways passed down through generations.
Lakota was predeceased by her grandparents Thelma and Matthew Wolfe Sr., Samuel Whitecap Sr. and Olive Ryder and Grandmother Beatrice Moosemay; her brothers Matthew (Christian) Wolfe, Garreth Wolfe, and Hyson Dubois; her uncles Steven Wolfe, Garnet Wolfe, Ronald Wolfe, Chuck Whitecap; and her aunts Marina Dubois, Joanne Whitecap and Patsy Whitecap.
She leaves behind her loving husband, Royce Bigsky, and her cherished daughter, Avah Whitecap, who was the light of her life and the greatest joy of her heart.
Lakota is lovingly remembered by her parents, Marlene Wolfe (Jeri Windigo) and Gary Whitecap, who each shared in her life journey. Lakota was raised on a farm with Jeri Windigo on Muskowekwan First Nation, where she grew up close to the land. She found comfort and happiness in trail riding, spending time outdoors, and learning traditional skills such as making star blankets, carrying forward the teachings of patience, care, and creativity.
She will be deeply missed by her siblings: Randy Wolfe, Janine Dubois (Justin), Tara Whitecap, Terrina Pelletier, Tyler Pelletier, Christine Wolfe (Terence), Samuel Whitecap, Jed Whitecap (Jordi), Jessi Wolfe, Priya Dubois (Tyler), and Patrick Bellegarde.
Lakota shared a special bond with her nieces Taiya Wolfe; Shysha Dhillon; Ashyanna Dhillon; Sareigh Whitecap; Zaida Whitecap; Trinity Whitecap; Aliana Syrenne; Novella Syrenne; and Olivia Whitecap, and her nephews Kasen Whitecap; Daniel Whitecap; Noah Whitecap; Deandre Whitecap; Ishaan Dhillon; Lakshay Dhillon; Alexie Portias; and Kian Portias, each of whom she loved deeply.
She is also survived by her aunts and uncles Leo (Sharon) Wolfe, Maurice Wolfe, Calvin (Melissa) Wolfe, Clifford Wolfe, Verna Blackkettle, Margaret Blackkettle, Noreen Whitecap, Darlene Whitecap, and Jacqueline Dieter, along with numerous cousins, extended family members, and friends.
Lakota carried a creative and expressive spirit. She had a deep love for makeup artistry, where her talent truly shined. Through her creativity, she shared her work proudly on Facebook, inspiring others with her skill, confidence, and self-expression. Her artistry reflected who she was; bold, gentle, and beautifully herself.
Lakota Rainy Whitecap will be remembered for her kindness, her creativity, her love for her family, and her deep connection to the land and her culture. Though she has left this physical world, her spirit remains carried in prayers, in memories, and in the hearts of all who loved her.
The family wishes to express special thanks to the staff and doctors at St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon, with special mention to the Palliative and Spiritual care team, along with the Muskowekwan First Nation for their support and compassion.
