Nelson "Crone" Wade Marshall Obituary

Nelson Wade Marshall, affectionately known as "Crone," passed away peacefully after a brief illness at Bobby's Hospice. He was born on April 3, 1965, in Scarborough, Ontario, and lived most of his life in Saint John, New Brunswick.

Crone may not have loved large family gatherings, but he always showed up — and those gatherings were better because he was there. At times, he struggled to find his place in this world, yet he found love, deep friendships, and belonging. The universe brought Crone together with his chosen family, each person arriving at exactly the right time. With his long hair, full beard, dark sunglasses, "Crone" hat, and denim jacket, he had the look of a heavy-metal rocker. Crone was a good, non-judgmental listener who knew how to love unconditionally. Described by many as kind, supportive, and flexible, he spoke with truth and kindness. He may not have had much money, but he felt he had everything he needed - especially with Alison, a dear and special friend who truly knew him. Crone unconditionally accepted the children from his relationships as his own and continued those bonds throughout his life. They cared deeply for him, and this extended family became his chosen family. Krista referred to him as her "White Knight" for his chivalry - and he was that for anyone who needed him. Crone was always all-in for fun and shenanigans, never missing an opportunity for a good laugh.

For many years, Crone worked at NTI Boilers Ltd., taking on many roles as a dedicated member of Unifor Local 49, where he met Bill, a lifelong friend. He remained with NTI until his retirement in 2024. Crone was predeceased by his close friend Adrian Thornton, whom he deeply missed. A passionate supporter of Roller Derby, Crone was a #1 fan of the Fog City Rollers and never missed an opportunity to cheer them on. He also loved attending performances at the Imperial Theatre with his good friend Dr. Martin Bakota, whose dedication and friendship the family gratefully acknowledges. Crone was road crew for Pegasus, Snakecharmer, and the Cinnamon Girls, all of whom will miss him greatly. In times of trouble, Crone relied on faith and hope, often offering reassurance with his familiar words: "Don't worry — it will all work out." He wanted everyone to know that he had no regrets. He lived his life the way he wanted to live it — and left it the same way.

"There is a road, no simple highway

Between the dawn and the dark of night

And if you go, no one may follow

That path is for your steps alone."

Still marching to the beat of his own drum. Nelson is survived by his brothers, Paul Marshall (Ann) and Richard Marshall (Christine), and his sister, Shelley McKee (Norman), as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Ronald Marshall, and his mother, Ina (Gilks) Marshall.

At Nelson's request, a private burial will take place at a later date. A celebration of life will be announced. Donations in Nelson's memory may be made in kind to Bobby's Hospice.

I know Mom has met you with open arms. No more pain.
