William Robert Ertzberger Obituary

William Robert Ertzberger

Friday, November 22, 1946 – Saturday, January 10, 2026

William Robert Ertzberger, a cherished soul known for his unwavering faith, love for his family, and dedication to his country, passed away peacefully at his residence on January 10, 2026, at the age of 79. Born on November 22, 1946, in Jacksonville, Georgia, to the late Clarence and Nannie Rose Holland Ertzberger, William's life was a testament to the values of hard work, service, and devotion.

A memorial service will be held at Mt. Galilee Baptist Church on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at 11:00 A.M. with Reverend Niles Dixon officiating, assisted by Reverend Sam Holland. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10:00 A.M. – 11:00 A.M. at the church.

William's journey began in the small town of Jacksonville, where he was raised by a close-knit family that instilled in him the importance of community and kinship. He carried these values throughout his life, touching the hearts of all who knew him. William proudly served his country as a member of the US Army during the Vietnam War, a period that shaped much of his character and resolve. After his military service, William returned to his roots in Georgia, where he built a life as a skilled carpenter and a diligent farmer.

A faithful member of Mt. Galilee Baptist Church, William's commitment to his faith was evident in his daily life. He was a pillar of the church, embodying the love and teachings of his Lord in every action and interaction. His kindness and humility were as steadfast as his love for fishing, a pastime that brought him both joy and tranquility.

William's heart was always full when surrounded by his beloved family. He is survived by his sons, Craig Wilcox (Tanya) of Dallas, Georgia, and Chris Wilcox (Jennifer) of Lumber City; grandchildren, Ty Wilcox (MacKenzie), Mason Wilcox, Sarah Grace Wilcox, Layton Wilcox (Monica), Cole Wilcox (Lindsey), Vince Wilcox, Morgan Carelock, and Matt Carelock (Marli) and his eight great-grandchildren; his sisters, Elizabeth Giddens of McRae, Ruevelia Huffstuttler of Adel, and Willie Wilcox (Larry) of Byron, Hazel Dennis (Sandy) of Milledgeville and his brother, Harris Ertzberger of Jacksonville.

William is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Nannie Rose Ertzberger, his brother, Howard Ertzberger and his sister, Ellen Deen.

William's life was a beautiful portrait of the values he held dear. He was a man who loved his Lord, his church, his family, and his country with every fiber of his being. His memory will be treasured and kept alive in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. William Robert Ertzberger's story is one of honor, love, and the quiet strength that defines the greatest among us.
