John Tyler Muir, 81, of Roper, NC passed away on Saturday, January 10, 2026 surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on October 13,1944 in Washington DC to the late Douglas Muir and Louise Rogers Muir. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Gary Muir.

John proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War, a time in his life he held with honor and deep pride. Following his military service, he dedicated many years as a long-distance truck driver, retiring after a hardworking and dependable career. John was a man who truly loved people—his family, his church family, and his many friends meant the world to him. He faithfully served as a deacon at Oak Grove Baptist Church and was an active member of the Ruritan Club, always willing to lend a helping hand. Known for his warm smile and infectious laughter, John never met a stranger and had a way of making everyone feel welcome. He especially enjoyed spending time out on the water, where he found peace and joy. Anyone who knew John loved him, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to call him friend.

His family includes his loving wife, Judi Muir of Roper, NC; sons, John Tyler Muir Jr. of Nashville, TN and Duane Jones or Windsor, NC; daughters, Allison Case (Jim) of Michigan and Kimberly Muir of Michigan; brother, Greg Muir (Alison) of Greenville, NC; sisters, Judith Sellers (Paul) of Florida and Deborah Dinsmore of Elizabeth City, NC; grandchildren, Autumn, Christopher, Greg, Jenna, Alicen and three great grandchildren.

Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, January 21, 2026 at 2 p.m. at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Roper with Reverend JN Worsley officiating. Family will receive friends on Wednesday from 1:00 - 1:45 p.m. in the church fellowship hall prior to the service and other times at the residence.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Oak Grove Baptist Church, Roper.
