John Frederick Ritchie Obituary

John Frederick Ritchie, 62, of Hackettstown, NJ, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2026.

John dedicated his life and career to education, serving with compassion and commitment as a special education teacher and later in school administration. He earned several degrees in education, including a master’s degree from East Stroudsburg University, and achieved his Principal Certification. Throughout his career, John was known for his patience, kindness, and unwavering belief in the potential of every student he served.

Outside of his professional life, John had a deep love for animals and was rarely without a four-legged companion by his side. He was an avid sports fan, faithfully cheering on his New York teams—the Giants, Knicks, and Yankees. John also enjoyed relaxing with television, especially watching reruns of Seinfeld, and took great pride in his extensive collection of VHS movies. A lifelong reader, he particularly loved Stephen King novels, horror stories, and sports-related books.

John remained active throughout his life, playing in men’s baseball leagues in the Hackettstown and Blairstown areas, a pastime that brought him both joy and lasting friendships. Above all else, his most cherished moments were spent surrounded by his family and friends, whose company meant everything to him.

John is survived by his beloved son, Robert Ritchie; his parents, Anthony and Kathleen Ritchie; his siblings, Jennifer Lusardi (Anthony), Matthew Ritchie (Desiree), and Tina Ritchie-Vansweringen (Alan); and many loving nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews. He is also survived by his former wife and dear friend, Stacey Ritchie, and his loyal and beloved dog, Benny.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit on Tuesday, January 13, from 4:00 to 7:00PM at Newbaker Funeral Home, 200 Route 94, Blairstown, NJ (GPS may list Columbia). A Prayer Service with Words of Remembrance will follow at 7:00PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s memory may be made to a local animal shelter, honoring his lifelong love for animals.
