Louis M. Modini Obituary

“A Great Family Man, Proud Papa, and Friend to All”

On Jan, 8, 2026, the world lost an amazing man. Lou Modini died at home surrounded by his wife and family after a long illness.

Lou was born August 22, 1941 to Martin and Eleanor Modini. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his only sibling, Julie Miserandino, and his in-laws, Carl and Edna Palleschi. Lou grew up in Lynn and graduated from St. Mary’s High School. He spent two years in the seminary before meeting his wife Beverly through his sister.

Lou and Beverly married on September 5, 1965 surrounded by 400 of their closest family and friends. They moved from Lynn to Swampscott in 1968, buying a two family house with Julie and her husband Vinny Miserandino. To this day, the two families share a special and very unusual bond- having grown up more as one family.

Lou and Beverly raised three daughters; Dr. Marisa Bochman (Scott), Carla Shorey, RN (Jim) and Elena Aham (Kevin). As proud as he was to be a father, no title meant more to him than the title of Papa- to Elise and Michael Bochman, Taylor and Morgan Shorey, and Emily and Molly Aham. He was uncle to Rosemarie (Miserandino) Larrabee (Clint), Julia and Gino Larrabee, Vin Miserandino (Nicole), Anna and Vincenzo Miserandino, and Marty Miserandino (Keri-Ann), Noella and Millie Miserandino.

Lou worked at Commercial Union Life Insurance Company on Beacon St. in Boston for 40 years. While commuting from Swampscott to Boston, and while raising his young family, Lou pursued his Bachelor’s degree at Boston College, proudly graduating in 1980 with his wife, mother, and daughters in attendance.

He was a communicant at Holy Family Church in Lynn for 50 years. He was a Lay Minister, Lector, and taught the Confirmation class for over 20 years. Lou and Bev made the delicious fried dough at the festas for 25 years!

Lou was very active in the town of Swampscott. He was elected to the School Committee in 1983. He was a member of the Machon School PTA, the Swampscott Housing Authority, and Upper Swampscott- manning the snack bar on Saturdays for Big Blue’s home games.

He was a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus in Lynn, ascending to Grand Knight in 2015. He was a volunteer at St. Vincent de Paul Society, My Brother’s Table, the North Shore Medical Center Cancer Walk, and he rocked babies with Bev at North Shore Medical Center for several years.

He included his family in so many of his activities. He loved scratch tickets, going to Foxwoods, playing cards and cribbage, or a good game night. He loved music and singing and was a great dancer!! He loved desserts. He loved to laugh.

After his retirement from insurance, Lou was approached by David Solimine, Sr. to be a greeter at his Ocean Street Funeral Home after he witnessed the ease at which Lou could speak to anyone. Lou happily worked at Solimine’s for almost 30 years.

Lou was a true gentle man- very intelligent, compassionate, empathetic, funny, and most of all, caring. He was concerned about everyone, especially those who were less fortunate, or sad, or troubled. He strived to bring joy and comfort to all he touched.

He truly lived the words of the Prayer of St. Francis:

Lord make me an instrument of your peace

Where there is hatred, let me sow love

Where there is injury, pardon

Where there is doubt, faith

Where there is despair, hope

Where there is darkness, light

and where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master

grant that I may not so much seek

to be consoled, as to console

to be understood, as to understand

to be loved, as to love.

For it is in giving that we receive;

it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;

and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Lou will be immensely missed by his wife, Bev of 60 years, his daughters, sons-in-law, grandchildren, brother-in-law, niece, nephews, their families, many cousins and relatives, and countless friends.

At his request, his memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2026 from 10AM-12PM in Holy Family Church, 26 Bessom St., Lynn, with a Funeral Mass beginning at 12PM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38109.
