Larry Lee Swift
July 12, 1941 - January 10, 2026
Larry Lee Swift, age 84, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 10, 2026. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon Arthur and Irene Mae Swift; sisters, Gloria Posthumus and Karen Kopkau.
Larry is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Ellen; their sons Bryan (Ronda) and Vince (Carrie); and his cherished grandchildren Brienna, Kaitlyn, Zachary, and Alexa.
Larry dedicated 30 years of his career to General Motors as a skilled tool and die maker. Beyond his professional life, his true passion was woodworking. He spent countless hours in his basement woodshop, creating beautiful pieces and passing down his craft to his grandchildren, leaving behind treasured family heirlooms.
A proud alumnus of Godwin High School, Larry was a member of the state-ranked band, playing clarinet and drums. The band’s accomplishments included an invitation to the Rose Bowl Parade and even recording an album-memories he carried fondly throughout his life.
Larry’s favorite place was Bills Lake in Newaygo, where he spent every summer since childhood. His grandmother’s property there became a family business, and Larry helped with boat rentals, the ice cream store, and maintenance-building a lifetime of memories by the water.
In the 1970s and 1980s, Larry was an avid bowler, competing in various leagues and regional tournaments, often contending for high averages. Larry had the privilege of coaching his sons little league baseball team for seven years, a time he truly treasured.
