Earl Sanders Obituary

Michael Earl “Earl” Sanders, who lived a vibrant life filled with backwoods adventure and laughter, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2026, in Valdosta, Georgia. Born on October 5, 1940, in Troy, Alabama, he relocated with his parents and siblings to Valdosta during his childhood. He spent the remainder of his life in Valdosta and the neighboring town of Quitman.

Earl had a profound love for the outdoors, often spending his days fishing, hunting, exploring the rivers, and searching for arrowheads. He also loved animals, especially dogs. He worked as a farmer for many years, cultivating the land and embracing the agricultural lifestyle that shaped his roots. In his later years, he transitioned to a career as a salesman for Woodmen of the World, where he continued to connect with people and build relationships. His competitive spirit shone through in his younger years, particularly in ping pong, where he was known for defending his title with fervor. He had a playful side, always ready with a practical joke or a tall tale, often sharing these stories while stifling his own laughter. His connection with children was special; he had a knack for keeping them entertained for hours, often using his repertoire of dad jokes that left everyone chuckling, including himself. His parents were vital to Earl, and despite his tough exterior, he had a tender heart, especially for his mother, embodying the spirit of a true mama’s boy.

Earl is preceded in death by several family members, including his father, Fred Sanders; beloved mother, Emily Lenora Strickland Sanders; a sister Martha, two brothers, Jock and Larry Sanders, and a great grandson Miles Hendry. He is survived by his sister, Evelyn Weaver; three daughters—Terry Musgrove of Valdosta, GA,

Alicia Wood of Boise, ID, and Millie Wright of Stockton, UT; along with eleven grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson.

A memorial service to honor his life will take place on January 24, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Maxwell - Purvis Funeral Home in Quitman, Georgia.

Earl may be gone, but his memory will forever remain.

**John 14:1-3**

1 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.

2 In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.

3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
