age 93, of Festus, Missouri, passed away at her home Thursday, January 8, 2026. She was born May 5, 1932, in Herculaneum, Missouri, the daughter of the late Myrtle (nee Politte) and Otto Higgins.

She is survived by her daughters Sandra (Mike) DeMunbrun of Wildwood, Missouri and Terri (Sam) Shelton of Herculaneum; sons Rick Smock of Festus, David (Jill) Smock of Festus, Ken Smock of Festus and Paul (Nancy) Smock of Festus; grandchildren Shannon (Dan) Hoehn, Alicia (Ian) Smith, Kyle (Caitlin) Smock, Cathryn Smock, Micayla Smock, Kristin (Nick) Shelton, Tiffany Shelton and Sumer Shelton; and great-grandchildren Brendon Hoehn, Logan Hoehn, Jameson Meyer, Shelby Harrison, Savannah Hargett, Harper Shelton, Emerson Shelton, Max Gorrell, Mira Smith, Farron Smith, Lilian Smith, Rowan Smock, Wyatt Smock, Henry Smock and Cecelia Smock.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Henry Paul Smock; sisters Norma Jean (the late Norvil) Rush, Dorothy (the late James) Miller, Sarah “Marie” (the late Edward) Burlage, Roberta (the late Paul) Thuesen, Bertha (the late John) LaPlant, Shirley (the late Wayne) Scott, Cecelia (the late Olin) Richardson and infant Alberta Higgins; and brothers Eugene Lester (the late Shirley) Higgins, Donald (Claudia survives of Texas) Higgins, Leonard (the late Berniece) Higgins, John (the late Theda) Higgins and infant brothers Chester and Ralph Higgins.

Jeanette was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Church in Crystal City where she volunteered with Mass preparations, preparing meals, housekeeping and was active with the Legion of Mary, Eucharistic Adoration and the Quilter’s guild. Early in her working career she was at Carter Carburetor in St. Louis where she met her husband, Henry. For 30 years she was a cook at the Country Kitchen in Pevely, famous for her homemade pies and worked at Jefferson R-7 School District.

Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Monday, January 12, 2026, at Vinyard Funeral Home in Festus with Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at Sacred Heart Church in Crystal City, officiated by Fr. Stephen Lian. Interment will be 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, January 14, 2026, in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.

 Memorials in her memory are preferred to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
