Ninety-eight years is a long time, until they’re over. And then you realize that they weren’t anything like nearly enough.
Rev. McGill, 97, of Rosebud, entered into his eternal rest with Jesus on Thursday, January 8, 2026, at Conemaugh Miners Medical Center, Hastings.
He was born on January 20, 1928, in Rosebud, at his grandparents T.S. and Myrtle McGill’s home, a son of the late John J. and Lois B. (Andrews) McGill. Having this past year celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary, on September 29, 1956, in Coalport United Methodist Church, he married Betty Louise McMasters, who survives along with a daughter Faith Helen McGill-Cossick of Camp Hill, three grandchildren Caleb Cossick of Camp Hill, Matthew Cossick of Harrisburg and Sarah Cossick of Philadelphia, a sister Mary Kay (Ray) Heverly in Ohio, three sisters in law Mary Lee McGill, Neleen McMasters and Ann McMasters, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter Annalee Rose Cossick, a son-in-law Frank Cossick, two brothers John E. McGill and James Lee McGill and a sister-in-law Helen, wife of John E. McGill.
Tom wore many hats in his lifetime:
He and his family built the Amoco Gas Station in Coalport and built a school bus and ran a local bus route. He graduated from Beccaria Twp. High School in 1946, majored in Civil Engineering at PSU and graduated from Wesley Seminary in Washington, D.C. He served his country in the United States Air Force and commissioned as an officer (2nd Lt) in the Korean Conflict. He was a flight trainer and flew the first single engine jet, the T-33. His first love was flying the “Cub” as a mere teen with his father as the instructor and was known to buzz over the local area. He had been employed at Merck Chemical Co. in New Jersey as an engineer, at Curtis Wright Corp., setting up Nuclear Reactor operations and retired from PennDot where he helped design the beginning of Interstate 80 plus many projects throughout our district, always aiming for safety and helping the “little” person.
He pastored the Glasgow Larger Parish for ten precious years plus a period at Patton and at Coalport United Methodist Church, where his ministry was wide and rewarding with a caring and drive to serve God’s people with the gospel.
His love and gift in woodworking blessed the McGill home and the Coalport Methodist Church in numerous ways. His grandfather McGill was a great encourager in the gift. He enjoyed gardening and his mowing with his Cub Cadet with which he proudly kept the grounds of his home to his desire.
Friends and family are invited to the Coalport United Methodist Church on Monday, January 12, 2026 from 10 am until the noon funeral services. Pastor Paul & Sue Fields will officiate with Pastors Rick Ginter, Joe Short and Kevin Howard assisting. Burial in Fairview Cemetery, LaJose. Following committal services, a luncheon will be held at the Coalport Christian and Missionary Alliance Church Fellowship Hall. Arrangements by McQuown Funeral Home, Glasgow.
