Elaine L. Kelly Obituary

NORTHBOROUGH

Elaine L. Kelly, beloved grandmother, mother, wife, teacher, and longtime public servant, passed away peacefully at the age of 88 on January 8, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on March 21, 1937, the daughter of Viola DiCamillo Fasano and Vincent Fasano.

Raised in Hyde Park, Massachusetts, Elaine was a graduate of Emmanuel College and devoted her life to education, family, and community service. A proud 65-year resident of Northborough, she became deeply involved in town affairs, believing strongly in civic responsibility and the power of local government to shape young lives.

Elaine served on the Northborough School Committee from 1969 through the mid-1980s, a period of growth and change for the town. During her tenure, she was known for her thoughtful leadership, advocacy for students and teachers, and commitment to strengthening public education. She also served on the town’s Appropriations Committee, where she helped guide investments in the town while preserving the character of the community she loved.

She was preceded in death by the love of her life, her devoted husband John “Jack” Kelly, with whom she shared a long and loving marriage. Together they built a home centered on family, learning, and service.

Elaine is survived by her sons, Stephen P. Kelly (Kathie) of Southbridge, MA, and Brian F. Kelly (Laurie) of Jacksonville Beach, FL. She was the cherished grandmother of Jessica Kelly of Marlborough; Staff Sergeant John J. Kelly II U.S.A.F. (Rachel) of South Carolina; Emma Kelly of Paris, France; Ekaterina Kelly of Ithaca, NY; Lauren Visciarello (Michael) of Bolton, Christian Hatch (Sarah) of Washington, D.C.; and Catherine Hatch (Miles) of Medford. She was also a loving aunt and great-aunt to several nieces and nephews.

Elaine will be remembered for her sharp intellect and unwavering dedication to her family and community. She had a lifelong love of learning and a deep appreciation for thoughtful conversation. Always a highly engaged participant in town meetings, Elaine will also be fondly remembered as an outstanding hostess who took great joy in bringing family and friends together. Her home was the heart of countless family gatherings, where she welcomed everyone with warmth and an abundance of savory snacks and homemade treats.

Her legacy lives on in the many students she influenced, the town she helped shape, and the generations of family who carry her values forward.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate and dedicated caregivers at the Coleman House in Northborough for their kindness and support.

Calling hours will be held Thursday, January 15, from 8:30–10:30 a.m. at Hays Funeral Home, 56 Main Street, Northborough. A funeral Mass will follow at 11 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Parish, 244 W.
