Daniel Dugan Obituary

It is with heavy hearts and deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Dan Dugan. Dan cast his final line on January 8, 2026.

Daniel Ray Dugan, the son of Ray and LaVere (Stevenson) Dugan, was born on January 28, 1949 in Cherokee, Iowa.

Dan graduated high school in 1967 before joining the Army Reserves. He was honorably discharged in 1973. He worked at the meat processing plant in Cherokee for 47 years, retiring in 2014.

Dan married Sharon Ostermyer-Popken on August 27, 1994.

A devoted husband, and friend, Dan found his greatest peace with a rod in his hand and the sun on his face. His life was measured not just in years, but in quiet sunrises on the lake, the thrill of the tug, and the memories that grew with every catch. In his free time, Dan enjoyed golfing, camping, and in his later years, he learned to love cats.

Dan is survived by his wife, Sharon Dugan; children, Amy (Tony) Wurth and Andy Dugan; grandchildren, Chloe and Brady Wurth; step-children, Matt (Dawn Webb) Popken, Tracy Popken, and Melissa Beltman; step-grandchildren, Kaitlyn (Derek) Duerst, Alan Popken, Dylan Popken, Brandon Popken, Mackenzie (Tim) McShane, Shiloh Popken-Webb, Samuel Popken-Webb, and Kylan Beltman; one step-great-grandchild, Jayden Duerst; a sister, Diane Stubbe; as well as numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, and other extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and LaVere (Stevenson) Dugan and grandson, William Popken-Webb.

He leaves behind a legacy of patience, a wealth of friendship and a tackle box full of memories.
