Edward E. Galka, 70 passed away Thursday, January 8, 2026 at home surrounded by his loving family, following a courageous battle with ALS. 

 

Born in Auburn on October 8, 1955, he was the son of the late Edward and Betty Hawker Galka. Ed was a graduate of Auburn High School Class of 1973, Cayuga Community College and the University of Miami. A devout catholic, he was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church. Ed was employed for thirty years with Mustad USA Inc. as the General Manager and Vice President of Logistics, opening plants in the Dominican and traveling to Singapore, Norway and the Philippines. Prior to his retirement, he worked an additional ten years with Johnston Paper. 

 

Ed took such meticulous care of all of his plants, flowers, shrubs and gardens, often making beautiful bouquets from the fruits of his labor. A self-proclaimed spreadsheet warrior, he would schedule and keep each golfer's statistics from his Tuesday travels with his golf crew. Every week they would convene and play a different course, never repeating a stop throughout the year, and never missing a stop at the 19th hole. More than all of his life's accomplishments, Ed's greatest feat was the family and the life that he and his loving and caring wife Marybeth have built together. 

 

In addition to his wife Marybeth Ganey Galka, Ed is survived by two sons, Tyler Galka (Brigid) and Michael Galka (Kirsten); five grandchildren Logan, Avery, Miles, Madison and Hallie; brother Kevin Galka (Mary Anne) and Jeff Galka (Pattie); and several nieces, nephews, and many friends.

 

Friends are invited to join the family for a Mass of Christian Burial to be offered at 10:30 am Tuesday, January 13, 2026 in Sacred Heart Church. Calling hours for Ed will be conducted Monday, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm in the church. Arrangements are with White Chapel Funeral Home Inc., Auburn. 

 

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Ed’s memory to Matthew House or The ALS Association.
