Kevin J. Ward Obituary

Kevin Ward died peacefully on January 8, 2026 at the age of 72. He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Kathy Ward; children, Patrick (Laura) Ward, Michael Ward; brother, Kermath "Ken" (Mary Beth) Ward; brother-in-laws, James (Ellen) Keidel, John (Susan) Keidel; sister-in-law, Sharon (Thomas) Bayer; several loving nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.

Kevin was born and raised in Staten Island, NY and moved to Rochester to attend St. John Fisher College. He was proud of being a math teacher for 40 years and loved going to work every day. He spent most of his career at Webster Schroeder High School. He formed lasting friendships with many students, and loved staying in touch after they graduated.

A lifelong sports fan with a particular passion for the New York Mets, he never missed a a game in recent years. A natural statistician, he kept stats on just about everything including local basketball and baseball teams in addition to his Scrabble club. He enjoyed crossword puzzles, the Jumble, Wordle, Scrabble, and jigsaw puzzles.

Kevin was very fond of live theatre, attending many Broadway shows and local theatre productions. He was also an avid storyteller. He was kind, welcoming and a man of great faith. He belonged to Corpus Christi Church and later Spiritus Christi Church since the mid-1980s. Most of all, he cherished the time spent with his family and friends.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to his caregivers, therapists and physicians who helped him maintain his independence throughout the last few years.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 17th at 10:00 AM at Spiritus Christi Church at Downtown United Presbyterian Church (121 Fitzhugh St., Rochester). In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Kevin's name to Goodwill Vision Enterprises (formerly ABVI), or St. John Fisher basketball
