CAMDEN………………..Gary M. (‘Dutch’) Huyser, 74, of Camden, passed away on January 3, 2026.

Born in Milford, CT., to Arnold and Virginia Huyser, and raised alongside his brothers,

Jeffrey and Phillip. Some of Gary’s fondest childhood memories were family camping

trips to Cape Cod and learning to sail.

Having moved to Maine in the late seventies to escape the city with their one-year-old

daughter, Kirstin, Gary spent much of his life in Troy, Maine, where he and his ex-wife of

thirty years, Karen (now Karen Giansiracusa of Camden, Maine), built a home and life.

Just over a year into life in Maine, their second daughter, Arissa, was born and rural

living meant there were always more home projects, landscaping, and animals to tend

to, which suited him well as he always had a need to be busy.

Gary—known by the nickname ‘Dutch’ on job sites—spent much of his professional life

as a carpenter and superintendent, exceptionally skilled at homebuilding, but also

spending his later years supervising large commercial construction jobs, most notably at

local hospitals in Rockport and Boothbay, including the St. Andrew’s physician’s building

and a Boothbay YMCA job that he was particularly proud of. Gary’s talent was well-

represented by the two unique homes that he designed and built for himself and his

family in Troy and Camden.

Gary leaves behind his wife, Sharon, of Rockport, Maine, who provided him with

companionship and support during some of his toughest years striving to remain

independent and defy illness. Gary also leaves behind his daughters, Kirstin Huyser and

partner Scott Chase of Falmouth, ME, and Arissa Egan and husband Jonathan of

Camden, ME. He was particularly proud of his grandchildren, Ethan and Addison

Caster, and Chloe and Piers Egan, who will always have memories of his love of music,

cars and tractors, the ocean, and nature—everything from tadpoles and frogs to

flowering shrubs and trees.

In lieu of a funeral, the family will plan a small, private remembrance celebration to

honor his wishes at a later time. In thinking of Gary, please consider doing something
