Eric James Winins Obituary

Eric James Winins was born on August 6, 1966 and transitioned unexpectedly, yet peacefully, in his sleep on December 26, 2025 at the age of 59. A proud native of New Orleans, Eric was born to the late James and Joyce Winins and grew up in the Gentilly and 7th Ward neighborhoods. Eric, a proud graduate of John F. Kennedy High School, built a distinguished career in hospitality, where his natural gift for hosting and commitment to excellence, made everyone feel welcomed and at home. A lifelong sports enthusiast, he excelled in golf, baseball, remained a devoted New Orleans sports fan and poured his passion into coaching and mentoring young athletes through basketball programs across the city. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched—on and off the court. Mr. Winins leaves to cherish precious memories, his beloved wife of 24 years, Cynthia; daughters, J'Nae, Joyce and Ashley; adored grandchildren, Royce, Aubrey, Cedrick, III and Gianni; brothers, Melvin Winins, Sr. and Donald Winins; mother-in-law, Dianna Smith; sister-in-law, Stephanie Smith-Greene, as well as a host of other loving relatives and friends. A Celebration service honoring the life and legacy of the late Eric James Winins will be held at Champions of Faith Church, 1720 Flood Street, New Orleans, LA 70117, on Saturday, January 10, 2026 at 10 am.
