Benny Edward Douglas
Benny “Eddie” Douglas, 83 of Johnson City passed away on Thursday, January 8, 2026 at the James H. Quillen Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Mountain Home.
Eddie was born on February 7, 1942 and was a lifelong resident of Johnson City, TN.
He was the son of John Benjamin Douglas and Gladys Street Douglas.
Eddie was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army. He served in Vietnam from 1967-1969 as a SSgt in the 2nd and 13th artillery division, with numerous missions earning him multiple medals for his service.
In 1977 he started his carpet cleaning business and later expanded into roofing. He had an unmatched work ethic which he passed to his sons that lead them to follow in his footsteps. Eddie loved spending time in his garage where he would work on projects and fix almost anything. Additionally, he a heart felt passion for old cars. On any given day you could see Eddie driving one of them around town. His greatest achievement was his family. He devotedly loved spending time with them and watching his grandchildren grow.
In addition to his parents, Eddie was preceded in death by his sister, Carolyn Jean Douglas; brother Jimmie Dwight Douglas; and nephew, raised as his brother, Kenneth “Butch” Douglas.
Eddie is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Lynett; his sons Clint (Suzanne) and Tyler (Erin); and his grandchildren, Emma, Cora, Sloane and Cole- the joys of his life. His friends Tommy Johnson, Ronnie Luttrell and Pete Perry were a special part of his life along with many other relatives and friends.
The family will have visitation (no service) on Wednesday January 14, 2026, from 5:00- 7:00 pm at Appalachian Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Burial will take place at Monte Vista Memorial Park on Thursday January 15, 2026 @ 12:00 noon.
