H. Oliver (“Ollie”) Stoutland, age 89, of Oak Ridge, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2026, after a brief illness.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at First Baptist Church, 1101 Oak Ridge Turnpike, Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Visitation will be an hour before the service.
Ollie was born on September 9, 1936, to Rev. Harry and Olive Stoutland near Creston, Illinois. He graduated from Huxley High School in Iowa in 1954; St. Olaf College in 1958; and medical school at Yale University in 1962. Following a year of residency at Broadlawns Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa, he began his family practice career in the small town of Ackley, Iowa. After nearly 25 years, Ollie decided to leave the private practice of medicine to work in pharmaceuticals. He spent one year in New York City with the Dreyfus Medical Foundation but then settled in Evansville, Indiana working with Bristol Myers Squibb.
His work moved him to Princeton, New Jersey, for a number of years until he retired back to Evansville in 1999. He retained his medical license until his death and spent many years working part time at a methadone clinic in Evansville to help those with drug addictions. He moved to Oak Ridge, Tennessee in 2012 where he lived the remainder of his life. Throughout his life Ollie enjoyed traveling, particularly while also pursuing medical missionary work. His family lived in Liberia, Africa, for 2 months in 1979 while he worked in a nearby hospital, and he traveled to Latin America many times over the years to help with various medical needs. He learned to pilot small planes while living in Ackley and loved listening to Gospel music throughout his life. His faith and his family was always most important to him.
He enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren grow and attending their school events, sporting events, baptisms, first communions, and graduations. He also took treasured pictures and videos at these events to preserve his family history. His sense of humor was always present and will be greatly missed.
In 1958, Ollie married Jane (Carlson) Stoutland with whom he had four children, Page Stoutland of Glen Arbor, Michigan, Carol Stoutland of Seattle, Washington, Susan (Brent) Bielski of Omaha, Nebraska, and Julie (James) Frommelt of Edina, Minnesota. Following his divorce, he was married to Minnie Frances Stoutland of Evansville, Indiana, from 1991 until her death in 2009. He then met and married Jan (Parrott) Stoutland on June 24, 2011.
Ollie is survived by his wife, Jan, his four children and his ten grandchildren, Theodosia Rossi, Zane Rossi, Remy Rossi, Dena Bielski, Maya Bielski, Luke Frommelt, Emma Frommelt, Ben Frommelt, Gabe Frommelt and Luca Stoutland. Ollie is also survived by Jan’s two children, Tracy Bailey and Kevin Rutherford (Beth Saur), and her grandchildren, Taylor, Riley, Ellie, and Maddie.
Ollie was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Frederick Stoutland, and his sister, Martha Stoutland, but is survived by his three nieces and nephew.
