Kenneth Charles Granthen, longtime resident of Roseville, (retired to Crooked Lake in Lake, MI) passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of his family on January 3, 2026. He was 92 years of age.
Kenneth was born on August 22, 1933 in Detroit, Michigan, son of the late Kenneth and Catherine Pearl (Brown) Granthen. He was united in marriage to his beautiful wife, Mary Ann Helen Pellow, on April 13, 1953. Together, Kenneth and Mary Ann shared an extraordinary 72 years of love, partnership, and adventure.
Their journey included years as proud owners and operators of The Little Boot Shop in Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti, a venture that reflected Kenneth’s strong work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit. He was a true “car guy,” enjoying everything from wrenching on vehicles to admiring the beauty of classic cars. Kenneth also loved being out on the water boating and fishing, and he found great joy in snowmobiling.
An avid reader, Kenneth enjoyed traveling with Mary Ann, creating memories that would last a lifetime. They treasured many trips to Las Vegas and Florida, and fondly recalled journeys to Arizona and the Northeast, including Maine, Vermont, and New Hampshire, as well as a memorable drive down the East Coast.
Kenneth was a genuine and trustworthy man who provided for his family with pride and devotion. His integrity, kindness, and steady presence left a lasting impression on all who knew him. He will be deeply missed.
Kenneth is the loving and devoted husband of Mary Ann, cherished father of Brandi (Tom) Collins and the late Kenneth (Donna) Granthen Jr.; proud grandfather of Michea (Bob) Jacobson; treasured great-grandfather of Aja; and beloved uncle to many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews. He was also very close to his cherished “daughter” Karen (Collins) vanPietersom (Regan), “grandchildren”, Graham vanPietersom, Emma (vanPietersom) Schrupp (Matt) and “great-grandchildren”, Charlotte, Harper and Luke.
A Celebration of Ken's Life will be held at the Infinity Hall, 16650 E. 14 Mile Road, Fraser, Saturday, February 21, 2026, from 12PM until 3PM.
