Letha J. King Obituary

Letha J. King, a beacon of love and selflessness, passed away on January 8, 2026, at the age of 89 in Creve Coeur, MO.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at the James O’Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal, MO. Burial will be at Grand View Burial Park in Hannibal, MO. Rev. Doug Job will officiate.

Friends and Family are invited to Letha’s Life Celebration at a visitation that will be held from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM Wednesday at the funeral home.

Born on April 7, 1936, in Hannibal, MO, Letha was the cherished daughter of Fred and Myrtle Eager. She spent her formative years in the town of her birth, where she was known for her friendly demeanor and kind spirit.

Letha's life was enriched by her marriage to James R. "Jim" King on June 26, 1955. Their union was a testament to enduring love and partnership until Jim's passing just days before Letha's. Together, they created a legacy of family and community involvement that will be remembered for generations. Sadly, Letha was also preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, and her son-in-law, Gail Tucker.

She is survived by a loving family, including her three children: Dena Tucker of Hannibal, MO, Susan Howe (Mark) of St. Peters, MO, and Lynn Benney (Tom) of St. Charles, MO. Letha's joy was multiplied through her nine grandchildren: Robert Tucker (Erin), Ryan Tucker, Irah Howe (Yvonne), Jim Howe (Aydrian), Dale Howe, Amanda Winters, Lexie Cox (Jason), Rita Roussin (Jake), and Tomi Benney (Blake O’Brien), and her fifteen great-grandchildren, who will carry forward her legacy of love and kindness.

Letha's professional life was marked by dedication and excellence. She retired as a secretary, having served with distinction at the Great River Gas Co., Pillsbury, and Eugene Field School. Her work ethic and commitment set a standard for all who knew her.

A devout Christian, Letha was a longtime member of the First Christian Church in Hannibal, MO. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she was actively involved in her church. She was one of the pioneering group of women who started the bereavement dinner ministry at First Christian, providing comfort to many during their times of loss.

Letha's altruistic nature extended beyond her church activities. She was a dedicated volunteer for the American Red Cross, particularly for their Blood Drives, exemplifying her selfless nature. Her interests were as varied as they were rich; she was an avid reader, a lover of crossword puzzles, and relished the time spent with her family.

Letha's cooking was legendary, especially her homemade Mexican dishes and maid rites, which were second to none.

Trips with her beloved Jim, cherished moments with her grandchildren, and the simple pleasure of a good book were among the many joys of Letha's life. She will be remembered as a woman who epitomized love, selflessness, and friendliness.

Pallbearers will be Ari Cox, Emmett Winters, Henry Howe, Frankie Howe, Rob Tucker and Ryan Tucker.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Northeast Missouri Humane Society.
