Susan Baer, 63, of Clarinda, Iowa, passed away January 8, 2026, at her home in Clarinda. A Memorial Gathering with a luncheon will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 31, 2026 at the

First Baptist Church, Clarinda, Iowa. A private burial will take place at a later date in the Oak Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Susan Baer Memorial. Susan Rae Baer was born on March 22, 1962, in Clarinda, Iowa. She was the eldest child born to Jerry W. Nicks and Marjorie Louise Lasley. At a young age Randy Young came into her life and together with Marjorie, they raised their children, Susan, Bill, Kevin, James and Timothy. Susan attended Clarinda High School and graduated with the class of 1981. She then went on and furthered her education by attending college courses at Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville.

Susan was united in marriage to Russell Wayne Baer, Jr. in Maryville in 1983. They were blessed with two children, Brandy and Josh. For a short time, early in their marriage, they resided in Maryville and then moved to Clarinda where they would raise their children and make their home. While residing in Clarinda, Susan worked as a nurse’s aide with home healthcare but always made her family her priority.

Early in their married life, Susan and Russell were active members of the First Baptist Church in Clarinda. She would continue to stay active with the many committees as well as a vacation bibleschool teacher. Something that also was near to Susan’s heart was the many international mission projects. With her service-guided heart, Susan thrived on helping anyone that was in need. She also attended bible studies with other ladies from the church and enjoyed her time spent there reading the bible and crocheting.

Susan was preceded in death by her mother Marjorie along with many aunts and uncles.

Left to cherish Susan’s memory is her husband Russell of Clarinda; daughter, Brandy Allison of Clarinda; son Josh (Amanda) Baer of College Springs; ten grandchildren, Evan Carpenter (Kasondra Paez) and their son Waylon, Jordan Allison, Zola Allison, Emmett Allison, Jarrett Allison, Baiden Baer (Hailey Lahmon), Emelia Baer, Benttley Baer, Bella Baer and Brevan Baer; stepfather, Randy Young; brothers, William ‘Bill’ Nicks, Kevin Nicks, James (Linda) Young and Timothy Young; father-in-law Russell Baer, Sr.; along with many nieces, nephews and other extended relatives.
