Marion “Jean” Leatherwood

September 7, 1933 – January 8, 2026

Marion “Jean” Leatherwood, age 92, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2026. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Carl Leatherwood.

Jean was born to Walter Roy and Elizabeth Whitener and older siblings Ruth and Roy Scott. She was raised in Crosby, Texas, where she attended Buffalo High School. She later spent part of her life in Livingston before returning home to the Crosby area. She was a devoted wife, a loving and caring mother, and a proud grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, representing five generations of family whom she cherished deeply.

Her strong Christian faith guided her life and was reflected in the gentle, loving way she cared for everyone around her. Jean loved reading and writing, finding joy and comfort in books and the written word throughout her life. She was also known for her love of cooking, treasured family recipes, and the warmth she brought to every family gathering. She had a gentle spirit and a caring heart, and she will always be remembered as a wonderful mom, grandma, great-grandma, and great-great-grandma whose love lives on through her family.

Jean is survived by her niece, LaRae Clark and her husband Charlie, and children: Lonnie Leatherwood and his wife Karen; Darrel Leatherwood and his wife Janet; Pamela Johnson and her husband Ronnie; and Walter Leatherwood and his wife Becky. She also leaves behind nine grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren, all of whom were a tremendous source of joy in her life.
