James Gage Gillard, known affectionately as Gage to his friends and family, passed away peacefully at the age of 25 on January 8, 2026, at Albany Medical Center in Albany, NY. Born to Lynn DeMers/Gillard of Red Hook, NY, and James Neil Gillard of Elizaville, NY, on January 20, 2000, in Rhinebeck, NY.
Gage attended Germantown Central School District and received his GED from Columbia Greene Community College. After completing his education, Gage followed his passion for driving, mechanics and machinery by earning his CDL. He found fulfillment in his career as a Truck Driver and Heavy Equipment hauler, with his last place of employment being at Partner Rentals of Kingston, NY.
Among Gage’s many interests, he was an enthusiast of all things motorized, Gage spent countless hours riding and working on not only his many vehicles but others vehicles as well. He found great pleasure in the sound of an engine, speed and the open road.
Gage always had that mischievous twinkle in his eye. He was full of energy, had a great sense of humor, and would speak his mind. He was resourceful and was known for coming up with creative ideas and plans to achieve his goals. He was always game for a road trip, whether it be to travel several states away to get truck parts or to enjoy a mountain or lake view. He was fiercely protective of his family and friends. If you were a friend, Gage had your back.
In addition to his parents, Gage is survived by his brother Grady Gillard of Red Hook, NY; his half-brother Chris Gillard of Florida; his aunts and uncles- Michael (Judith) DeMers of New Jersey, Carol DeMers (Toby) of Kingston, NY, Michelle (Peter) DeRidder of Lyons, NY, Beth (Ron) Hapeman of Elizaville, NY and Sean (Jeanne) Gillard of Germantown, NY. , Gage is also survived by his "pup" Tanner, whom he loved dearly and by numerous cousins, extended family, and friends.
Preceding him in death were his maternal grandparents, Leo & Elizabeth DeMers, his paternal grandparents, John & Elizabeth Gillard, and his uncle, Richard DeMers. Gage's presence will be deeply missed, but his light and energy will leave an imprint on the hearts of those who knew him.
