Johnnie Evans Insell Obituary

Johnnie Mae Evans Insell, of Tullahoma, passed away at home on Thursday, January 8th, 2026 surrounded by her family and loved ones. Johnnie was the humblest, kindhearted, and loving person. She was a member of New Center Grove Church of Christ. To know Johnnie was to know love. She loved her family more than anything in the world, except God. She always taught us that God and family came first and everything else came next. She was a Loving Mother, Grandmother, Aunt, and Sister to all her family. Family was her pride and joy. She will be missed by many and has left her legacy and love for us all. As our hearts are broken, we know she is in no more pain, and with her loved ones in Heaven, and we take comfort in knowing this. In her early years, she worked at the Wilson Ball Factory before later joining the Dairy Queen in Tullahoma, where she worked for Gordon and Peggy Payne as the night-shift manager for 25 years. In her later years, she cared for elderly individuals and worked at McDonald’s and KFC until declining health led her into retirement at 90 years old. Johnnie was preceded in death by her parents, Joe Manual Riddle and Etta Sons Riddle of Winchester Springs. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Horton Evans; and second husband, Herbert Insell; one daughter, Shelia Gail Brown; one son, Jerry Wayne Evans; three brothers, James Riddle and Roy B. Riddle of Winchester and Herman “Buddy” Riddle of Tullahoma; six sisters, Willie Mae Hunt of Winchester, Dora “SIS” Benson, Myrtice Thompson, Kathleen Jones, Rendy Lindley all of Tullahoma, and Lota Carpenter of Nashville. Johnnie is survived by one son, Steve (Jo) Evans of Tullahoma; one daughter-in-law, Charlotte Evans of Winchester, one brother-in-law, Billy Insell of Murfreesboro; eight grandchildren, Misty (Denny) Edde, Wendy Sears, Sandy (Ricky) Jones, Angie (Mike) Binion, Gary Scott, Jason (Kelly) Evans, Casey Evans, and Wade (Kayla) Evans; sixteen great-grandkids; and nine great-great-grandkids. Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 10th, 2026 at Kilgore Funeral Home from 5:00-8:00pm. The funeral service will take place on Sunday, January 11th, 2026 at 2:00pm in the Kilgore Funeral Home Chapel with Bros. Bob Salmon and Randy Short officiating. Burial will follow at New Center Grove Cemetery in Estill Springs with Hunter Jones, Kobe Evans, JJ Cooper, Addian Evans, John Moore, Jed Smithson, and Logan Buckner serving as pallbearers.
