Dr. Henry S. Jordan Obituary

Henry Speir Jordan, MD, age 81, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2026, in Anderson, South Carolina, having placed his faith and trust in his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Born on December 28, 1944, in Anderson, SC, Dr. Jordan grew up in the community he would later serve faithfully throughout his life. He graduated from T.L. Hanna High School and was an Eagle Scout. He attended the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Following his graduation, he served his country honorably in the United States Air Force, including service as a flight surgeon during the Vietnam War. Later he completed his military career retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. He later served in the US Air Force Reserve as chief of surgery from 1997-2004 retiring as a Colonel.

Following his military service, Dr. Jordan answered his calling to medicine, earning his medical degree from Emory University School of Medicine. In 1982, he returned to his hometown of Anderson, where he established a general surgery practice and cared for the community for 22 years. He viewed medicine as a ministry of service, treating each patient with compassion, humility, and respect.

After closing his surgical practice in 2000, Dr. Jordan continued caring for others by working part time at Union Hospital in Union, South Carolina, where he was nominated for Physician of the Year in 2015. He also served part time at several small community hospitals, remaining committed to bringing healing and comfort wherever he was needed.

Guided by his faith, Dr. Jordan served others well beyond his profession. He held leadership roles as a member of the South Carolina State Board of Education, President of the South Carolina Policy Council, and Chairman of the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC). He also served for many years on the Board of the Haven of Rest and Frontline Ministries, reflecting his heart for those in need.

A longtime member of Graceview Church, Dr. Jordan faithfully served as an elder for many years, seeking to live out his faith through service, generosity, and love for others.

In 1967, he married his high school sweetheart, Patricia McGill, with whom he shared a devoted, Christ-centered marriage. He is survived by his wife; their three daughters, Kelly (Russell), Laura (Marcus), and Holly (Gordon); and his six beloved grandchildren, Lilly Kate, Walt, Eli, Elizabeth, Thomas, and Marie Claire. He is also survived by his brothers, Robert Jordan (Beverly), Bradley Jordan (Debbie), and Edmond Jordan (Kathy), along with numerous cherished nieces and nephews.

Dr. Jordan's life was marked by faithful service to God, love for his family, and compassion for all he served. While he will be deeply missed, his family rejoices in the promise of eternal life and the hope of a joyful reunion in Heaven.
