Dakota Clayton Dixon Obituary

January 3, 2026 – Mînî Thnî, Alberta

It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved father, son, brother, uncle, partner, grandson, cousin, and greatest friend, Dakota Clayton Dixon, on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at the tender age of 29 years.

Dakota was a very kind, gentle, friendly, humble man, with a very quiet nature. Dakota was very artistic and eloquent with music, poetry, and speaking. He recently became a father to his own child, Ailanii, and a ten-year-old stepson, Raiden, who he loved tremendously. He loved spending time with his siblings, his mother, and his new little family.

He recently started enjoying travelling to events such as pow wows, cultural events, and ceremonies, and spending time outdoors, hiking, fishing, hunting, playing pond hockey, skateboarding, and singing. Dakota was very talented in whatever he set his mind to, a hard worker when he worked, and a great father to his children.

Dakota received his education at various elementary schools in Southern Alberta, mainly in the city of Calgary, AB. He went on to attend high school at Bishop McNally Sr. High and Mînî Thnî Community School. Dakota also received certificates of completion in a few programs with the community of Mînî Thnî. These include BHEAR Environmental Monitoring 2023 and Steel River Energy Services 2023.

Dakota was raised with traditional beliefs and values of the Nakoda and Blackfoot culture and traditions. He respected all cultures, including being baptised in Christianity in the summer of 2025, which he was very proud of, but his Indigenous roots were still prominent to him.

He loved studying the universe, especially the constellations and clouds. Growing up, he and his big brother, Tyler, as well as numerous friends, often made songs in the homes he lived in. Dakota was great at freestyle singing and writing poetry. This was truly his passion.

He loved and protected those he loved, especially his siblings, who were his best friends.

Dakota is survived by his parents, Jason and Sabrina; his partner, Teianna Labelle, his children, Ailanii Nova-Rain and Raiden; his siblings, Tyler, Janessa (Michael), Angelliah (Malikai), Jason Jr., and Aaron; maternal grandmothers, Rena, Diane (Myron), Theresa, Corrina, Tammy, Mina, Eva, Marietta, and Viola Dixon; aunts, Evelyn and Cynthia Dixon; uncles, Alvin Dixon and Jesse Dixon; maternal grandfathers, Harvey Dixon, Darcy (Kathy) Dixon, Bruce Dixon, Ollie (Lanie) Benjamin, and Elliott (Maureen) Benjamin; paternal great-aunts, Brenda, Randa, and Sherry; paternal great-uncle, Seymour Eagle Speaker, paternal grandmother, Joan Eagle Speaker, maternal cousins, Evandra, Triana, Jaylana, Kayden, Tyson, Selena, Leah, Katalea, Mya, Derek Jr., Keisha, Tyren, Lucas, Healy, Joniann, Lance, Latisha, and Jesse Jr.; paternal cousins, Kimberlie, Jodi, James, Loretta, Chayla, Travis, Mia, and Tim Jr.; and special grandmother, Loriann Powerface. Dakota will also be lovingly remembered by numerous relatives from the Dixon, Labelle, McLean, Poucette, Chiniquay, Ear, Mark, Baptiste, Eagle Speaker, Weasel Head, Plume, Bastine, Bearspaw, and Kootenay families. We apologize if we have missed anyone.
